The lighting in the extract highlights the action in the scene.
When Samuel is in the cuhicle the lighting is dim hut when he
lool<s out and witnesses the gruesome murder, the lighting
changed to starlc lighting so evergthing in the scene is hrighter
and clear to see. Samuel is resourcetul and quicl< thinl<ing as the
director shows darl< lighting when he is in the corner 0t the
cuhicle. This Portrags the theme Amish versus English as
Samuel was not use to the artiticial lighting in the English world
as in the Amish world theg use oil lamps and candles as their
lights which are a lot dimmer.
The director inclucles two main costumes which was what the English
wore. and what the Amish wore. The audience can identity the
ditterence hetween the Amish and finsÎish in the hathroom where
the murder was. The murderer that Samuel identitied wore a brown
suit with a tie which made him look otticial and tidt}. Samuel xs
wearingwhat most Amish do. a black suit and a black hat which ns
the Clitterence in the Enslish and Amish world as most Amish wear
the same thing, hlack clothes and hats and English costumes are a“
ditterent and in this case a business suit. The directors message on
the costume in the Film I's to highlight the ditterences between Amish
and Enghsh .
