  1. 1. Juz 1<br />Word-to-Word Translation of :<br />Surah Al-Baqarah<br />Ayah 1-5<br />By: Momina Mateen<br />

  3. 3. That. It points at something far away.<br />NOT<br />The book<br />Doubt<br />Huroof-e- Muqata’at. Qata’a is cut. So Huroof-e-Muqata’at means the isolated letters. In writing they are joined but they are read separately. The actual meaning of these letters is only known to Allah.<br />In it. It is 2 words:<br />1- في which means in<br />2- ه which means it.<br />
  4. 4. Guidance<br />Those who<br />Those who believe. The root letters are أم ن which means who believe, who have faith, they have peace. To have peace means to have no fear.<br />ل stands for ‘for’<br /> is those who safeguard themselves. Those who adopt Taqwa.<br />What is Taqwa? <br />The root is و ق ي, meaning to safeguard self to be careful, to be cautious, to have Taqwa. To have Taqwa means to fear Allah.<br />
  5. 5. AND<br />It means the salah or prayer. The root word is ل وص which means to incline however if the root words are يلص it means to burn as in burning the sins.<br />AND<br />From what<br />مم which means from<br />ما which means what<br />They establish. It comes from the word إقامة (Iqama) which means to straighten out. So this does not imply only doing the daily prayers but performing them correctly in all possible ways with all the prescribed conditions: <br />Regularity<br />Punctuality<br />Inward concentration<br />Humility <br />Awe<br /> <br />We gave them sustenance. The root word is رزق. has three parts to it:<br />رزق meaning sustenance.<br />ن meaning we <br />هم meaning they<br />With the unseen.<br />ب means with. <br /> is something that is hidden. It something that ones’ five senses cannot perceive.<br />
  6. 6. Those who<br />Repitition. It means they believe.<br />AND<br />The root is زلن which means sent down, revealed.<br />They spend. The root word is قفن. نفق is tunnel. A tunnel with 2 openings. So when you put something inside it, it doesn’t stay inside. It comes out. means they spend. From the sustenance that is given to them they spend from it. They don’t keep any of it. <br />With what<br />

WHAT<br />AND<br />AND<br />From<br />It means before you.<br />قبل meaning before<br />ك means you.<br />Towards you.<br />إلى which means towards.<br />ك means you.<br />It is being repeated. It means sent down or revealed.<br />1- ب means with<br />2- الآخرة means the hereafter. means the last, something that will come at the end.<br />
  8. 8. Those people<br />Guidance<br />They<br />Upon<br />Do not confuse إلى and على. إلى means towards and على means upon.<br />They believe with certainty. The root words areن قي which means clear and proven. The thing that makes the heart, the intention, the intellect subservient.<br />إيمان is the first degree. يقين is the last degree. And the amount of عمل (work) in both of them is the same.<br />
  9. 9. رب is Rabb<br />هم meaning they<br />They<br />From<br />Those people<br />Those who attain success. It is the plural of مفلح. The root word is ل ح ف which means to cut or tear. فلح means success. And فلاح means farmer. A farmer cuts and digs the earth. The one who cuts or tears is a فلاح. And فلح means complete success. It means Dunyah and Akhira success. The one who attains success in Dunyah and Akhira is a مفلح.<br />And<br />
