  6. 6. The Typical User ! Age:! 18-34 ! Household Income:! $100,000+ ! Male/Female:! 45%/55% ! College Educated:! 52% ! Caucasian:! 69% INTERESTING: Compared to the average Internet user, the average Twitter user is much more likely to be African American.

  8. 8. WHAT IS TWITTER? Twitter is a “micro-blogging” service that allows you to create, send and receive messages of 140 characters of less - also referred to as “tweets”.
  9. 9. WHAT IS A FOLLOWING? Your “following” are the people who’s “tweets” you’ve chosen to receive.
  10. 10. WHAT ARE FOLLOWERS? People who’ve chosen to receive your “tweets” are referred to as your “followers.”
  11. 11. TWITTER TIPS: The “best” Twitter users tend to be those with more “followers” than “following.” Be wary of anyone with thousands of “following” yet very few “followers.” Be especially wary of those same people that have few, if any, actually published tweets.

  13. 13. WHAT IS A RETWEET? If a Twitter user thinks a post of another user is interesting, they may choose to repeat -- or “retweet” -- the tweet to their own followers. Getting your messages “retweeted” is one of the ultimate compliments within the Twittersphere.
  14. 14. WHAT IS A HASHTAG? Adding a hashtag - or “#keyword” - is a way of categorizing your message to make it easier for non-followers to find your tweet.
  15. 15. WHAT IS A DM? A DM - or “Direct Message” - is a private message between two users. You may only DM those people following you. DMs are not searchable.
