  2. WHAT IS DIABETES ?  Diabetes is a chronic (lifelong) disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood.
  3. Types of diabetes
  4. TYPE 1 DIABETES usually diagnosed in childhood affected by hereditary Imperative to inject insulin daily because the body makes little or no insulin frequently called the ‘insulin- needed’ group Patients with type 1 diabetes need insulin daily to survive
  5. TYPE 2 DIABETES most common usually occurs in adulthood but diagnosis is increasing in the younger generation affects many children Body is incapable of responding to insulin Rates rising due to increased obesity and failure to exercise and eat healthy
  6. GESTATIONAL DIABETES high blood sugar levels during pregnancy in women Women who give birth to children over weight high risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  7. What Is Prediabetes?  above average blood glucose levels, not high enough to be classified under type 1 or type 2 diabetes  long-term damage to body, including heart and circulatory system  Starts with unhealthy eating habits & inadequate exercise
  8. ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS FOR DIABETES  Chromium , Magnesium improve blood sugar control in diabetes. A lack of magnesium has been associated with insulin secretion abnormalities and complications.  Vanadium is derived from plant sources increase a person's sensitivity to insulin.

Broccoli  It contains a high concentration of sulforaphane, a sulfur compound which is very effective in combating diseases.  It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and dietary fiber and is most nutritious if eaten raw. Broccoli is good for diabetes treatment and control.

Broccoli for Type 2 Diabetes  Broccoli is rich in dietary fiber which can lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol.  decreases insulin resistance.  body needs chromium to manufacture glucose tolerance factor (GTF) which helps to metabolize blood sugar.  K+, Na+, Ca2+ , P, Fen+ , Zn+ Se , Mn , rich in omega- 3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids W` are good for heart health. Broccoli for Type 1 Diabetes Type 1 diabetics will have to continue taking their insulin.
