Abstract
One of the main axis of the IIT studies is to get student ready for labour market and for this
purpose there is an internship at the end of the fourth semester. I took the opportunity to go
for an Internship in AIESEC Sfax for acquiring both practical and professional experience.
My project was to provide a web application for AIESEC Sfax, to help the Entity providing a
good image about AIESEC and the activities of AIESEC in Sfax. I had to work with Google
Maps as the map web service.
The project had three main objectives:
➢ Create the web application with the Bothe side backend and frontend
➢ prepare the date as well as videos, Pictures, Text...
➢ Host The web application on windows Azure
➢ Try to create data server on windows azure.
This project required the use of several web technologies and software:
PHP5 with which I already worked before, CSS3, and JavaScript, Movie Maker,
Dreamweaver and windows Azure services. This latest Technology was a challenge for me to
master since I have never used it before and.
In the end that was a very good project to get familiar with technologies that are very popular
nowadays such as JavaScript and windows Azure

1 Project presentation and specification
1.1 About AIESEC
AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership
potential. We are a non-political, independent, not-for-profit organization run by students and
recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Its members are interested in world
issues, leadership and management. AIESEC does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity,
gender, sexual orientation, religion or national / social origin.
Since we were founded, we have engaged and developed over 1,000,000 young people who
have been through an AIESEC experience. The impact of our organization can be seen
through our alumni who represent business, NGO and world leaders, including one Nobel
Peace Prize laureate, Martti Atisaari of Finland.
Since 1987 AIESEC SFAX is providing society with Change Agents and leaders, 27 years of
activating youth leadership retaining a strong sustainability.
1.2 Project specification
Last year I read a shared the statistic that 80 percent of small business and organization
owners in Tunisia still weren’t using social media because they didn’t feel it was important
to their business. That post spurred a lot of strong comments, both on site here and on
Facebook. Eventually the conversation went from whether AIESEC Sfax should invest in
social media to whether they even need a Website or an Internet presence at all.
I really wish we could stop having this conversation.
You probably know some businesses or organizations who are doing phenomenally well
without a website. I do, too. But I often wonder how much better they could be doing if they
took the time to invest in one. And when I say “website,” I don’t mean an electronic version
of that brochure they’ve been handing out for the past 10 years. I mean a legitimate, well-
thought-out site that is designed to inform, engage and convert their audience.
So that’s why an idea came to my mind about creating a website for AIESEC as an
AIESECER and web developer in order to make our entity shine this year and in the future
because in my opinion there are five things could give us a website:
 You stop being invisible
 You help control your rankings
 You create another sales tool
 You build authority
 You build an email list
7
Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016
1.2.1 You stop being invisible
I’m not trying to be flippant, but by creating a website you stop being invisible to the
people trying to find you online. More and more studies are telling us about the ROBO
effect where customers are learning to research online before buying offline. They’re
typing their problems or needs into the search engine of their choice and are researching
the organization that appear for those queries. If you don’t have a Web presence, there’s
no chance of you showing up and you never even enter into their thought process. In
2016, you can’t afford to be invisible.
1.2.2 You help control your rankings
While you can’t simply rattle off a list of search terms you want to be found for, you can
use search engine optimization basics to help control where your site shows up and for
which queries. By creating optimized content, building relevant links and creating a brand
that EPS want to engage with, you set yourself up as an authority in the eyes of the search
engine and increase your chances of appearing for the right queries – the ones paying EPS
are using to find an AIESEC entity just like yours. Creating an optimized website helps
you to gain important visibility for the right terms.
1.2.3 You create another sales tool
A website is a powerful sales tool and one that allows you to address your customers’
concerns, give them the information they need to make a decision and create compelling
calls to action. Sure, you can keep placing ads in the Yellow Pages and hope that word-of-
mouth generates on its own…or you can build something that inspires it to happen. Your
website is your home turf where people can go to seek out trusted information about your
company and engage with you on a more personal level. Use it to build confidence in your
brand and to give EPS important information (and incentives).
1.2.4. You build authority
Though the Web has been around for some time, it’s true that you don't always need a
website to find your audience. It was a lot easier to market via direct mailings, Yellow
page ads and local word-of-mouth. However, today your website and your social presence
are the factors that EPs are looking for when they research an Internship or an information
about the entity that he like to do his experience with. They want to know that you’re
stable enough to have a dedicated Web presence. That you’ll be around tomorrow should
something go wrong. That they can get ahold of you when they need to. By creating a
website, you set up Projects on the Internet and show EPs that this is where they can come
to find information about you, to read articles that you’ve written and to learn more about
your company. All of these things build authority. Without a website, you’re at a huge
disadvantage as a small business owner trying to speak to your EPs.
8
Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016
1.2.5. You build an email list
Even if you hate the Web, you probably still like email. I bet you even collect emails from
your EPs by hand so that you can keep them up to date on what’s happening in-entity. Having
a website allows you to do all of that better because it makes it easier, faster and provides
even more incentive for someone to sign up. Create a site that users can trust and then use it to
build your email list. Along with your website, that list just may end up being one of your
strongest search tools.
2 Project flow
2.1 Development tools
The purpose of this project was building a web application hosted on windows Azure.
Therefore, I needed a web development environment to work with both Backend-side and
Frontend-side and many web technologies such as JavaScript, Html5, Css3, Sql and PHP5. I
worked on my own computer which is running Linux Mint OS and a Windows 10 virtual
Machine.
I did install Apache2, MySQL and PHP5 which stands for Linux, is a server-side
development environment for Linux OS to set up a web server very easily. It provides the
well-known Apache web server, a PHP5 engine for server-side dynamic webpages pre-
processing, a MySQL engine, which is a Relational Database Management System, used to
store and process the information, responding to SQL requests. It also provides additional
tools such as Phpmyadmin, a PHP web application very useful for MySQL databases
administration, thanks to its visual interface, allowing the developer to avoid using the
command line tool.
Mozilla Firefox in order to develop a web application, the use of a web browser is the
minimum requirement. I'm used to work with Mozilla Firefox, which is well known for its
reliability and its huge number of extensions such as the very powerful and useful Firebug.
Firebug is a web development extension for Mozilla Firefox that comes with a HTML DOM
explorer, a script editor and a JavaScript debugging console. It has proved to be a necessary
tool during this project, especially since I was a beginner with JavaScript.
Brackets I also needed a text editor as the basic tool for any development. I choose the new
pretty recent Adobe CS6 for its very simple user interface, its project explorer, auto
completion and JavaScript error warning functionalities.
Also I did use movie maker in order to work on the videos that I did record in my own on the
conferences.
Windows Azure in order to host our web application and create the Dns Name of our
application also I did try to create a virtual machine running windows server 2008 in order to
use it as a server to our entity.

2.2 Programming languages
HTML 5 and CSS 3 HTML and CSS are not, strictly speaking, programming languages, but
they belong to what can be named descriptive markup languages. HTML (Hypertext Markup
Language) consists of a set of tags that are used to structure the web page. Since the creation
of xHTML in 2000, it has to be written like an XML tree. The CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)
was introduced after the HTML to separate the content from the look. It consists of a list of
properties that are applied to the HTML tags.
JavaScript and AJAX JavaScript is a script language, client-side executed, used to interact
with the user and control the behavior of the web page inside the client's web browser. It uses
the DOM structure to manipulate the HTML elements, hence the importance of the XML tree.
AJAX is a way to perform asynchronous client-server communication, without the need to
reload the web page, mainly to store and retrieve data from a server-side managed database.
PHP 5 PHP Hypertext Preprocessor is a multipurpose server-side programming language
designed to make dynamic websites. It is used to interact with the database and process the
information. I used the latest PHP extension PDO to interact with the MySQL database.

Conclusion
To conclude about the project, it was a unique opportunity for me to develop on the long run
an application that corresponds to actual user needs. I improved personal abilities such as
framing the project, understanding the needs and put them into a technical form that is
possible to work from. I was happy to put into practice a good part of the knowledge I
gathered during this two year at IIT. I also learnt a lot about web technologies, mainly
JavaScript and Php5, and all the new possibilities offered by HTML 5 and all the services that
windows Azure offered to his clients. However, beside that this project got me to discover the
front end side of an application, I think I feel more comfortable with back end development
and algorithms for data processing for instance. In the end, that broadened my knowledge
about computer science and development, which is always a positive point. About the
internship in general, I would say that is was a wonderful life experience for, on the first hand,
working background and technical skills improvement, but also on the other hand, personal
experience, meeting new people and experiencing life abroad, with different culture and
working methods.

I would also like to thank Mr. Ahmed Kallel for his help while organizing the internship and for his monitoring on the project. Then I would like to thank Mrs. Eya Mezghani, my student tutor, for her useful help with everyday life during the internship. Finally, I would like to thank the International Organization 'AIESEC" represented by the entity of AIESEC Sfax, and everyone who made this internship possible
  • 3. 3 Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016 Abstract One of the main axis of the IIT studies is to get student ready for labour market and for this purpose there is an internship at the end of the fourth semester. I took the opportunity to go for an Internship in AIESEC Sfax for acquiring both practical and professional experience. My project was to provide a web application for AIESEC Sfax, to help the Entity providing a good image about AIESEC and the activities of AIESEC in Sfax. I had to work with Google Maps as the map web service. The project had three main objectives: ➢ Create the web application with the Bothe side backend and frontend ➢ prepare the date as well as videos, Pictures, Text... ➢ Host The web application on windows Azure ➢ Try to create data server on windows azure. This project required the use of several web technologies and software: PHP5 with which I already worked before, CSS3, and JavaScript, Movie Maker, Dreamweaver and windows Azure services. This latest Technology was a challenge for me to master since I have never used it before and. In the end that was a very good project to get familiar with technologies that are very popular nowadays such as JavaScript and windows Azure

  • 6. 6 Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016 1 Project presentation and specification 1.1 About AIESEC AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. We are a non-political, independent, not-for-profit organization run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Its members are interested in world issues, leadership and management. AIESEC does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion or national / social origin. Since we were founded, we have engaged and developed over 1,000,000 young people who have been through an AIESEC experience. The impact of our organization can be seen through our alumni who represent business, NGO and world leaders, including one Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Martti Atisaari of Finland. Since 1987 AIESEC SFAX is providing society with Change Agents and leaders, 27 years of activating youth leadership retaining a strong sustainability. 1.2 Project specification Last year I read a shared the statistic that 80 percent of small business and organization owners in Tunisia still weren’t using social media because they didn’t feel it was important to their business. That post spurred a lot of strong comments, both on site here and on Facebook. Eventually the conversation went from whether AIESEC Sfax should invest in social media to whether they even need a Website or an Internet presence at all. I really wish we could stop having this conversation. You probably know some businesses or organizations who are doing phenomenally well without a website. I do, too. But I often wonder how much better they could be doing if they took the time to invest in one. And when I say “website,” I don’t mean an electronic version of that brochure they’ve been handing out for the past 10 years. I mean a legitimate, well- thought-out site that is designed to inform, engage and convert their audience. So that’s why an idea came to my mind about creating a website for AIESEC as an AIESECER and web developer in order to make our entity shine this year and in the future because in my opinion there are five things could give us a website:  You stop being invisible  You help control your rankings  You create another sales tool  You build authority  You build an email list
  • 7. 7 Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016 1.2.1 You stop being invisible I’m not trying to be flippant, but by creating a website you stop being invisible to the people trying to find you online. More and more studies are telling us about the ROBO effect where customers are learning to research online before buying offline. They’re typing their problems or needs into the search engine of their choice and are researching the organization that appear for those queries. If you don’t have a Web presence, there’s no chance of you showing up and you never even enter into their thought process. In 2016, you can’t afford to be invisible. 1.2.2 You help control your rankings While you can’t simply rattle off a list of search terms you want to be found for, you can use search engine optimization basics to help control where your site shows up and for which queries. By creating optimized content, building relevant links and creating a brand that EPS want to engage with, you set yourself up as an authority in the eyes of the search engine and increase your chances of appearing for the right queries – the ones paying EPS are using to find an AIESEC entity just like yours. Creating an optimized website helps you to gain important visibility for the right terms. 1.2.3 You create another sales tool A website is a powerful sales tool and one that allows you to address your customers’ concerns, give them the information they need to make a decision and create compelling calls to action. Sure, you can keep placing ads in the Yellow Pages and hope that word-of- mouth generates on its own…or you can build something that inspires it to happen. Your website is your home turf where people can go to seek out trusted information about your company and engage with you on a more personal level. Use it to build confidence in your brand and to give EPS important information (and incentives). 1.2.4. You build authority Though the Web has been around for some time, it’s true that you don't always need a website to find your audience. It was a lot easier to market via direct mailings, Yellow page ads and local word-of-mouth. However, today your website and your social presence are the factors that EPs are looking for when they research an Internship or an information about the entity that he like to do his experience with. They want to know that you’re stable enough to have a dedicated Web presence. That you’ll be around tomorrow should something go wrong. That they can get ahold of you when they need to. By creating a website, you set up Projects on the Internet and show EPs that this is where they can come to find information about you, to read articles that you’ve written and to learn more about your company. All of these things build authority. Without a website, you’re at a huge disadvantage as a small business owner trying to speak to your EPs.
  • 8. 8 Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016 1.2.5. You build an email list Even if you hate the Web, you probably still like email. I bet you even collect emails from your EPs by hand so that you can keep them up to date on what’s happening in-entity. Having a website allows you to do all of that better because it makes it easier, faster and provides even more incentive for someone to sign up. Create a site that users can trust and then use it to build your email list. Along with your website, that list just may end up being one of your strongest search tools. 2 Project flow 2.1 Development tools The purpose of this project was building a web application hosted on windows Azure. Therefore, I needed a web development environment to work with both Backend-side and Frontend-side and many web technologies such as JavaScript, Html5, Css3, Sql and PHP5. I worked on my own computer which is running Linux Mint OS and a Windows 10 virtual Machine. I did install Apache2, MySQL and PHP5 which stands for Linux, is a server-side development environment for Linux OS to set up a web server very easily. It provides the well-known Apache web server, a PHP5 engine for server-side dynamic webpages pre- processing, a MySQL engine, which is a Relational Database Management System, used to store and process the information, responding to SQL requests. It also provides additional tools such as Phpmyadmin, a PHP web application very useful for MySQL databases administration, thanks to its visual interface, allowing the developer to avoid using the command line tool. Mozilla Firefox in order to develop a web application, the use of a web browser is the minimum requirement. I'm used to work with Mozilla Firefox, which is well known for its reliability and its huge number of extensions such as the very powerful and useful Firebug. Firebug is a web development extension for Mozilla Firefox that comes with a HTML DOM explorer, a script editor and a JavaScript debugging console. It has proved to be a necessary tool during this project, especially since I was a beginner with JavaScript. Brackets I also needed a text editor as the basic tool for any development. I choose the new pretty recent Adobe CS6 for its very simple user interface, its project explorer, auto completion and JavaScript error warning functionalities. Also I did use movie maker in order to work on the videos that I did record in my own on the conferences. Windows Azure in order to host our web application and create the Dns Name of our application also I did try to create a virtual machine running windows server 2008 in order to use it as a server to our entity.
  • 9. 9 Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016 2.2 Programming languages HTML 5 and CSS 3 HTML and CSS are not, strictly speaking, programming languages, but they belong to what can be named descriptive markup languages. HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) consists of a set of tags that are used to structure the web page. Since the creation of xHTML in 2000, it has to be written like an XML tree. The CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) was introduced after the HTML to separate the content from the look. It consists of a list of properties that are applied to the HTML tags. JavaScript and AJAX JavaScript is a script language, client-side executed, used to interact with the user and control the behavior of the web page inside the client's web browser. It uses the DOM structure to manipulate the HTML elements, hence the importance of the XML tree. AJAX is a way to perform asynchronous client-server communication, without the need to reload the web page, mainly to store and retrieve data from a server-side managed database. PHP 5 PHP Hypertext Preprocessor is a multipurpose server-side programming language designed to make dynamic websites. It is used to interact with the database and process the information. I used the latest PHP extension PDO to interact with the MySQL database. 2.3 Interface Figure 1: Loading the web application

  • 23. 23 Mohamed Bouhamed 04/01/2016 Conclusion To conclude about the project, it was a unique opportunity for me to develop on the long run an application that corresponds to actual user needs. I improved personal abilities such as framing the project, understanding the needs and put them into a technical form that is possible to work from. I was happy to put into practice a good part of the knowledge I gathered during this two year at IIT. I also learnt a lot about web technologies, mainly JavaScript and Php5, and all the new possibilities offered by HTML 5 and all the services that windows Azure offered to his clients. However, beside that this project got me to discover the front end side of an application, I think I feel more comfortable with back end development and algorithms for data processing for instance. In the end, that broadened my knowledge about computer science and development, which is always a positive point. About the internship in general, I would say that is was a wonderful life experience for, on the first hand, working background and technical skills improvement, but also on the other hand, personal experience, meeting new people and experiencing life abroad, with different culture and working methods.
