  • Make sure everyone there is registered as SAS. If not, confirm that they are eligible (500+, full-time, Gateway level) and make a note to change the classification in the database.
  • Make sure they understand prerequisite and that it pays to ask to be placed on a waiting list the first day if the class is full.
  • Make sure they understand prerequisite and that it pays to ask to be placed on a waiting list the first day if the class is full.
  • Make a pitch for taking SAL classes only in the summer and doing OU in the fall when the semester is not compacted into 6 weeks. Show transparency of SJSU green sheet and remind them that this is a contract with the terms spelled out. Can they complete a term paper in 6 weeks, for example? Can they read 100 pages every night with good comprehension? Can they do library research to make a presentation? If they decide at the end of week 2 that they can’t make it, we won’t be able to withdraw them from the class, so caution is warranted.
  • Pass out Julie’s descriptors at this point and make sure they understand what their Gateway options are.
  • These are just suggestions. Any combination with the right number of units versus hours would be ok. Here’s where you can go to the Class Schedule site and explain how to find courses, including going to the catalog to look for prerequisites. Pass out the Advanced GE sheet at the same time. Then put up the transparency for the reg form and go over it with them. All numbers must be correct.
  • Sometimes they don’t understand why the fact that they drop a SAL class doesn’t cover the extra cost. I always reply that the cost to us for having them in our program go far beyond the classroom expense. Reiterate that we cannot register them for a class until the fee is paid, so it should be done at the same time they turn in the reg form.
  • Pass out the advanced GE list
  • Reiterate the importance of having all the forms to you by Thursday afternoon so that you can get the report finished and over to Darcel by the next day. Tell them that the professor expects them to be registered right away and may not agree to administer a test or grade homework if the name is not on the roster. That’s why it’s important to do this as quickly as possible. TBA classes are usually online. Only Info
  • Go to class schedule & use tabs to switch between schedule and descriptions.
  • Located in other file. First slide is a template, second slide is to play with. Do not save changes when you close. Remind students to fill in the class info in PENCIL! Use website first without telling them where to go. That will come later. Start with SCHEDULES -> DEPARTMENTS ->
  • Reiterate the importance of having all the forms to you by Friday afternoon so that you can get the report finished and over to Darcel by the next day. Tell them that the professor expects them to be registered right away and may not agree to administer a test or grade homework if the name is not on the roster.
