Grades and Attendance <ul><li>Grades and attendance very important in our academic programs. </li></ul><ul><li>F-1 Student Visa status – </li></ul><ul><li>Mandatory attendance to all classes. </li></ul><ul><li>If you receive an “F” in any core course or elective course – you will not receive a “SAL Certificate of Completion” and you will be placed in Probation at the end of the term. </li></ul>

  22. 35. SAL Online Bookstore <ul><li>SAL students use the SAL Online Bookstore to order their textbooks. </li></ul><ul><li>We are going to show you how to buy your books using the SAL Online Bookstore. </li></ul>

Gateway Courses for Advanced Students <ul><li>Read the Gateway course descriptions that were given to you. </li></ul><ul><li>Listen to the teachers talk about the courses. </li></ul><ul><li>Thank about what you need to study most. Look at the textbook if you wish. </li></ul><ul><li>Get some help from one of the advisors. </li></ul><ul><li>Make your choices. </li></ul>

Class Choices <ul><li>Your classes list shows the options available for your level of English </li></ul><ul><li>A full-time student is in class for a total of 20 hours a week. </li></ul><ul><li>Most of you should take Written Communication, so those hours are part of of your 20 hours. </li></ul><ul><li>Your advisor will help you make other good choices for your particular needs and interests. </li></ul>

What To Do First… <ul><li>Put a check in the box next to the course you want, choosing 20 hours per week, including the important writing class. </li></ul><ul><li>DO NOT CHOOSE MORE THAN 2 ELECTIVES. </li></ul><ul><li>If you are a part-time student, you will have 16 hours or less. </li></ul><ul><li>Get help from an advisor if you need it. </li></ul>

What To Do Next… <ul><li>Using your check sheet, enroll in the class on the computer and then get a final printout of your schedule. </li></ul><ul><li>Do not leave until you complete the registration process and get the final printout! If you do not choose your class, Ann will choose for you!! </li></ul>
  27. 52. REMEMBER! <ul><li>You can order your textbooks online. Check the ISBN number listed on your schedule. </li></ul><ul><li>Always prepare homework before class and come ready to share your ideas and help your classmates learn. </li></ul><ul><li>Regular classes begin on Monday, October 18 th at the SAL Classroom Building! </li></ul><ul><li>Friday electives will begin Friday, October 22 nd . </li></ul>

Enrollment Procedures <ul><li>Enter your Student ID number in the box </li></ul><ul><li>When your choices appear on the screen, check the ones you want. </li></ul><ul><li>Be sure the days and times do not conflict. Some classes are offered at the same time, so choose carefully! </li></ul><ul><li>Choose 20 hours of classes, unless you are a part-time student or taking SJSU classes too. </li></ul><ul><li>DO NOT CHOOSE MORE THAN 2 ELECTIVES! </li></ul><ul><li>Go to Moe for printout of your schedule. </li></ul><ul><li>Ask Ann or Moe for help if you have a problem </li></ul>
