  2. 2. Nature’s balance Oxygen People and animals breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon-dioxide. But plants do the opposite, they breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. So as long as there are enough trees on the planet, the world will never run out of oxygen. F UN FOR ME! Copyright © 2012 Mocomi & Anibrain Digital Technologies Pvt. Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
  3. 3. Nature’s balance Oxygen NATURES BALANCE People and animals breathe in oxygen to supply their bodies with air. They breathe out carbon dioxide. Plants take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. Carbo n diox ide Oxyg en F UN FOR ME! Copyright © 2012 Mocomi & Anibrain Digital Technologies Pvt. Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
  4. 4. Nature’s balance Oxygen PHOTOSYNTHESIS Plants make their own food. They absorb carbon dioxide in the air and water from the soil. Chlorophyll which is found in the leaves of a plant uses sunlight as a source of energy to covert carbon dioxide and water into food. This is called photosynthesis. Oxygen, a by-product is released during this process. ood Plant F Su nli out gh t In out F UN FOR ME! Copyright © 2012 Mocomi & Anibrain Digital Technologies Pvt. Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 5. 5. Nature’s balance Oxygen ADDITIONAL INFORMATION When chlorophyll uses sunlight as energy to convert carbon-dioxide and water into glucose; oxygen is released as a by-product. Cellular respiration is the process that converts food into a usable energy source. It takes place in the cells of humans, animals and most plants. it requires oxygen and releases carbon dioxide and water as by-products. It is thought that over 75 percent of photosynthesis occurs in the oceans in phytoplankton. But incessant deforestation could still affect the world's oxygen supply. F UN FOR ME! 6. 6. Nature’s balance Oxygen WILL WE EVER RUN SHORT OF OXYGEN If deforestation continues at a rapid rate, and no more new trees are planted, it could lower the supply of oxygen. F UN FOR ME! Copyright © 2012 Mocomi & Anibrain Digital Technologies Pvt. Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
  7. 7. Nature’s balance Oxygen PROJECT When trees lose water from their leaves during photosynthesis it is called transpiration. Try doing this experiment by leaving a leaf sample in a bowl of water under the sun. Keep it as it is for an hour or two and come back and check. What do you see on the leaves? Keep plants inside your house. It not only adds touch to your home decor but also gives a feeling of freshness.
