In the Philippines <ul><li>From 1990-2003, the Philippines has an average of 20 cyclones a year with 8-9 landfall each year (Cruz, et. al., 2007) </li></ul><ul><li>Population of 88.57M as of 2007, NSO </li></ul><ul><li>November to February is cool, while March to May is hot and dry. June to October is rainy, with the months between July and September characterized by typhoons , DOT </li></ul>

Recent Visitors in the Phils <ul><li>In 2006, Typhoon Xangsane (with local name Milenyo), Category 3-4 – changing strong wind intensities </li></ul><ul><li>In 2008, Typhoon Fengshen (with local name Frank) was a Category 3 – characterized by erratic movement </li></ul><ul><li>In September 26, 2009, tropical cyclone Ketsana (local name is Ondoy) brought a typical month’s rainfall in six hours </li></ul>

Conclusions and Follow-through studies (1) disaster mitigation system utilizing disaster mapping & simulation for the provincial disaster coordinating council that models a province with three major watershed dams, with mountainous terrain and low-lying areas ; (2) and a social network system to harness disaster preparedness knowledge hopefully creating a community of practice.
