  3. 3. What does a Smartphone look like?
  4. 4. What can Smartphones do? <ul><li>Send and receive mobile phone calls </li></ul><ul><li>Some Smartphones are Wi-Fi capable </li></ul><ul><li>Personal information management (notes, to-do lists and calendars) </li></ul><ul><li>Communication with laptops or desktops </li></ul><ul><li>Data synchronisation with applications such as Microsoft Outlook </li></ul><ul><li>E-mail </li></ul><ul><li>Instant messaging </li></ul><ul><li>Applications such as word processing programs or video games </li></ul><ul><li>Play audio and video files </li></ul>

Productivity in the workplace - Employees can send and receive e-mail directly to their phones, they can connect to the internet at any time, applications can be downloaded onto the Smartphone that can assist the employees in making their job easier e.g. maps to get to places etc. They can also keep track of appointments by saving them in a calendar and setting a reminder. Communication in the workplace – Employees can keep in touch with their colleagues either by phoning, text messaging, instant messaging or E-mail.
  6. 6. Social engagement – One can access social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace directly from your Smartphone because of the speedy internet access. Education – Students can use their Smartphones to do research for projects on the internet, keep in tough with fellow classmates to discuss group projects either by e-mail or instant messaging (such as Blackberry messenger / BBM), save their daily timetable on a calendar so as to have easy access and also save test and assignment dates.

  8. 8. What do some Smartphone users have to say? “ I can get my email, have a map pinpoint my exact location and even dance to a tune my way to work. I still find it novel that I can update Facebook on the move.” – Jennifer Scott “ I think that checking your email, Text, Internet, Facebook, and etc..., is very very useful. For example, when I sent an important inquiry to a service manager via email and I have to go to school the next day, I can just check to see if I get a reply the next day while I am at school because it is about a bus schedule/route that I am planning to start commuting from college to home.” - Kevin Baughen Very useful. Without turning on my computer in the morning, I can quickly check the weather, and see if I have any e-mails telling me if there’s a class cancellation – Ramyun-yum
