  2. 3. <ul><li>Synopsis: Students will work for an electrochemical design firm (Dionne Designs Inc) to develop Technologies in the production of useful energy in many contexts. They will work with the firm in the role Research teams. They will pitch their chemical technology to the firm. </li></ul>

  4. 5. <ul><li>In the process they will learn and apply how to identify chemical reactions, atomic theory, types of chemical reactions, balancing chemical reactions, etc. </li></ul>

  6. 7. <ul><li>Demonstrate the reaction. </li></ul><ul><li>Evaluate the energy potential of the reaction. </li></ul><ul><li>Propose and/or demonstrate applications. </li></ul><ul><li>Address associated aspects of personal and environmental safety. </li></ul><ul><li>Illustrate alternative ways of producing the same salts, and other products, using different reaction types. </li></ul>
  7. 8. <ul><li>Identify and classify chemical changes, and write word and balanced chemical equations for significant chemical reactions, as applications of Lavoisier’s law of conservation of mass </li></ul>
  8. 9. <ul><li>It will be presented in the form of a video project and pitch. They have to make me interested in their product. </li></ul>
  9. 20. <ul><li>Students will perform labs to make them familiar with all the concepts. </li></ul><ul><li>Observations and analysis will be performed through a Google doc. Students have opportunity to collaborate with each other as well as myself and mentor. </li></ul>
  10. 21. <ul><li>Dionne Designs Inc. A company in Airdrie that develops Solid Oxide Fuel cells. Electrical energy from chemical reactions. Relate that to what they are doing globally. (Mentorship) </li></ul><ul><li>Look into U of C engineers as possible mentors. </li></ul><ul><li>What is the process by which this company uses. </li></ul><ul><li>What Connections can be made in an entrepreneurial aspect and an energy sector aspect </li></ul>
  11. 22. <ul><li>Student intermediates will be evaluated by both group mates and myself in the form of lab activities and demonstrations. </li></ul><ul><li>Hoping that a mentor can also critique student work </li></ul><ul><li>Project will be ongoing. Students will be expected to have myself as a member of their Google doc group </li></ul>
  12. 23. <ul><li>Math- ratios and problem solving, written and algebraic expressions </li></ul><ul><li>Social studies- human impacts </li></ul>
  13. 24. <ul><li>Assessment will be ongoing. There will still be quizzes based on some of the steps (Ie balance chem. equations, naming ionic and molecular compounds, etc). Final exam. </li></ul><ul><li>Project will be rubric marked </li></ul>
  14. 25. <ul><li>Students will teach parents, community and classmates about their research and have them perform it. </li></ul>
