I am proud of my Jewishheritage but not because…… • I was raised in a Jewish home – I wasn’t • I went to Hebrew school – I didn’t • I went to camp – I didn’t • I have memories of our family going to synagogue together – we didn’t • I have been to Israel – I haven’t
I am passionate about being Jewish because……It matches up with my other passions:• I love to learn• I love to laugh• I love ancient cultures and exotic places• I have an interest in social justice And also because of shared culture and traditions
I didn’t realize any of this until I came to Jacksonville. In NY that culture andtradition were part of the In Jacksonville, not so environment. much.
I came to the Center and the JJCPreschool and MJGDS and discoveredthat part of what I missed about NY wasbeing Jewish and I discovered my pride init.
I learned that if I wanted our children to feel that way too,• they weren’t going to get it from the local culture,• they weren’t going to get it from our extended family because they are not here,• and they weren’t going to learn it from me because I didn’t have the tools.
They were going to get it From Jewish education.
Once here Ilearned a lotmore abouttheimportanceof a JewishDay Schooleducation.
