Presentation of Ferslev School <ul><li>Ferslev School is situated south of a major town, Aalborg (approx. 120.000 inhab.) </li></ul><ul><li>360 pupils from the age of 6 – 16 </li></ul><ul><li>29 teachers and 10 educationalists </li></ul><ul><li>The children are at school between 8 – 14.30 </li></ul><ul><li>After school the children up to 12 years can go to after-school activities (until 5 pm) </li></ul><ul><li>Children from 12 – 16 can join youth-classes in the evenings from Monday - Friday </li></ul>

And then hopefully it is fully integrated) </li></ul><ul><li>Background (We were three schools in Aalborg that wanted to work with a project that would broaden the students’ horizons so they would appreciate the similarities and differencies between peoples and learn to value diversities) </li></ul>

Likewise they should learn to think globally and act locally. They must learn to see the consequences of their actions in a global context). </li></ul>

Questions we want to bring into focus in Ferslev <ul><li>How is it to go to school in other countries? </li></ul><ul><li>How do they live? </li></ul><ul><li>How do they play? </li></ul><ul><li>What do they eat? </li></ul><ul><li>What traditions do they have and practise? </li></ul><ul><li>Do children and youngsters work? </li></ul><ul><li>How is it to be a teenager? </li></ul><ul><li>What kind of music do they listen to? </li></ul><ul><li>What kind of sport do they practise? </li></ul>

Our first steps…. <ul><li>We planned different activities among the three schools of Aalborg (one of the schools have 41 nationalities located in an area with council houses, there is a school in the countryside (that’s us) and a typical townschool) </li></ul><ul><li>Joint music, sports, dance, and cooking events </li></ul><ul><li>Each school has a website with information about the project </li></ul><ul><li>A topic-week at the school concerning an environmental conference (like the one in Copenhagen in December 2009) </li></ul><ul><li>’ A Global Citizen’s Classroom’ (with a huge globe, with posters, souvenirs from all over the world, computers with web-cams, maps from different countries….….) </li></ul><ul><li>Always to remember to tell the other colleagues and the children, their parents, and the surrounding community about our project. It is very important to be visible! </li></ul>
