  2. 2. Who are you? <ul><li>Who are you now? </li></ul><ul><li>What do you want to be when you grow up? </li></ul>
  3. 3. Welcome to your permanent record <ul><li>How do you want people to see you? </li></ul><ul><li>Would you want your teacher or an employer to see you that way? </li></ul><ul><li>If it’s on the Internet, they may see it, if it’s on a social networking site with your name, they will see it. </li></ul><ul><li>Once it’s there, the odds are good you will not be able to get it back. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Some Rules to follow <ul><li>Keep it “clean”, if you wouldn’t want your teacher to see it, don’t post that picture. </li></ul><ul><li>Use a screen name that is not your name for personal business; don’t assume people will not figure out who you are. </li></ul><ul><li>Keep pages private if it’s not something you would share in front of your grandmother, principal, or a minister. </li></ul>

Who do you know? <ul><li>Social Networks are for meeting with people. </li></ul><ul><li>You can meet people you know in real life, and people you have never met in person. </li></ul><ul><li>If you don’t know them in real life, they may not be what they seem. </li></ul><ul><li>If you know them in real life, they may say things they wouldn’t say to your face. </li></ul>

Warning signs <ul><li>Asking you to do something you shouldn’t do (illegal, sexual, unsafe). </li></ul><ul><li>Trying to get you in trouble, or trying to start trouble between you and others </li></ul><ul><li>Threats against you. </li></ul><ul><li>Behavior that makes you uncomfortable </li></ul>
  7. 7. What to do? <ul><li>Talk to a grown up and ask for help if you are uncomfortable. </li></ul><ul><li>Follow rules of good behavior (don’t threaten, or talk smack). </li></ul><ul><li>Let your parents know about friends you haven’t met in real life. </li></ul>
