•Social Media is not an answer to all your
marketing woes but it is an enabler

•Social Media is not Harry Potter’s Magic Wand,
it requires careful planning and diligent
execution

•Social media is not a one way traffic but a multi-
way engagement

Why Social Media?
•Numbers
   •Nearly 500 million ACTIVE users in Facebook
   •Over 100 million active users in twitter
   •You Tube > 400 million unique users (?)
   •And so on for Pinterest, Linkedin , Google Plus etc
   •You can increase your reach quickly

•Many people don’t believe in ads
   •Ads are one way traffic
   •Customers often cannot relate to people in the ads
   •Customers don’t want expert opinion but they want
   re-assurance from their fraternity. In other words
   “word of mouth”
   •Honesty and transparency are core values

•This is not teenage fad anymore, this is
serious business

•Goal - Identify what you want to do online
•Create a website or blog if you don’t have
one
•Set up online shop if required
•Identify a few social media tools and avenues
to start with
•Set up a deadline
•Estimate budget for resources (People,
Server etc.)

•Good content – meaning original, good
quality, authentic, informative
•Type of content – Articles, experiences,
photo features, videos
•KISS
•Set targets for frequency
•Invite content – increases visibility for you
and writer both (win-win)
•Ensure content reflects your niche area
most of the time

•Word of mouth communication and RSS
•Write and invite comments
•Publicize your contents thru Social Media
•Encourage discussion in forums
•Initiate contests – for giveaways and freebies
•Photo and video shares
•Bottom line is to constantly ENGAGE and
obtain better SERP (Search Engine Results Page ) &
branding

•Online Membership – for frequent customers
•Paid premium content in your site
•Better Search Engine Results Page (SERP)
means higher sales
•Team up with complementary business e.g
tour operations with hotels
For bloggers and certain types of individual
businesses
   •PPC like Adsense , Bidvertiser, Clicksor
   •Text, Image ads, Affiliate links of other companies
   •Advertorials / Sponsored blog posts
   •Sponsored Missions
   •Other Avenues (youtube, getty images etc)

Don’t be a part of rat race, you don’t have to do
things just because your competition is doing it

Concentrate on contents

Key objective is SEO & Branding

Have patience – Social media works – I know it

Move out of free websites and blogs as soon
as possible. Potential customers are skeptical
about free sites

  • 3. What is Social Media? •Social Media is not an answer to all your marketing woes but it is an enabler •Social Media is not Harry Potter’s Magic Wand, it requires careful planning and diligent execution •Social media is not a one way traffic but a multi- way engagement © Nisha Jha 2012 3

Why Social Media? •Numbers •Nearly 500 million ACTIVE users in Facebook •Over 100 million active users in twitter •You Tube > 400 million unique users (?) •And so on for Pinterest, Linkedin , Google Plus etc •You can increase your reach quickly •Many people don’t believe in ads •Ads are one way traffic •Customers often cannot relate to people in the ads •Customers don’t want expert opinion but they want re-assurance from their fraternity. In other words “word of mouth” •Honesty and transparency are core values •This is not teenage fad anymore, this is serious business © Nisha Jha 2012 4

  • 6. Plan •Goal - Identify what you want to do online •Create a website or blog if you don’t have one •Set up online shop if required •Identify a few social media tools and avenues to start with •Set up a deadline •Estimate budget for resources (People, Server etc.) © Nisha Jha 2012 6

Create •Good content – meaning original, good quality, authentic, informative •Type of content – Articles, experiences, photo features, videos •KISS •Set targets for frequency •Invite content – increases visibility for you and writer both (win-win) •Ensure content reflects your niche area most of the time © Nisha Jha 2012 7

Participate •Word of mouth communication and RSS •Write and invite comments •Publicize your contents thru Social Media •Encourage discussion in forums •Initiate contests – for giveaways and freebies •Photo and video shares •Bottom line is to constantly ENGAGE and obtain better SERP (Search Engine Results Page ) & branding © Nisha Jha 2012 8

Monetize •Online Membership – for frequent customers •Paid premium content in your site •Better Search Engine Results Page (SERP) means higher sales •Team up with complementary business e.g tour operations with hotels For bloggers and certain types of individual businesses •PPC like Adsense , Bidvertiser, Clicksor •Text, Image ads, Affiliate links of other companies •Advertorials / Sponsored blog posts •Sponsored Missions •Other Avenues (youtube, getty images etc) © Nisha Jha 2012 9

Conclusions Don’t be a part of rat race, you don’t have to do things just because your competition is doing it Concentrate on contents Key objective is SEO & Branding Have patience – Social media works – I know it Move out of free websites and blogs as soon as possible.
