(p.35) <ul><li>We’ve built factories in the developing countries and offered local workers job opportunities. </li></ul><ul><li>We raised their wages and standard of living. </li></ul><ul><li>We have actually helped promote the growth of the economy and improve the lives of the poor. </li></ul><ul><li>What’s more, workers are already protected by the minimum wage law, so how can you say that we’re exploiting the workers. </li></ul><ul><li>Without us, their lives will be even worse. Q.3 <ul><li>Agree. </li></ul><ul><li>If investors observe ( 遵守 ) local legal regulations ( 法律條例 ) such as fulfilling the requirement of the minimum wage and other labour regulations, then their investment should be protected. </li></ul><ul><li>If the workers complain they have been exploited, they have to approach ( 接觸 ) their government to change the regulations to get protection instead of blaming the investors. </li></ul>

Q.3 <ul><li>Disagree. </li></ul><ul><li>Developing countries generally do not have capital to develop their economy. </li></ul><ul><li>When they negotiate ( 商討 ) with overseas investors, they often do not have strong bargaining power ( 議價能力 ) to fight for better and reasonable benefits for workers. Therefore, investors should actively improve workers’ wages and benefits. </li></ul><ul><li>Moreover, investors profit from their investment through the hard work of the workers. Therefore the investors should be responsible for providing reasonable wages and improving workers’ living standards. </li></ul>
