How to get on board with the vintage 70s boho look
1. How To Get on Board with the Vintage
70s Boho Look
The 1970s bohemian look is back with a vengeance and it seems that we just can't get enough of this
flowing, floral, folksy fashion. There were some looks that we just nailed in the 70s and so is it any
wonder that we borrow a bundle from that period? This is, perhaps, nostalgia for the times before the 80s
ruined taste. The 1970s, looking back, seem to have had a sort of naive and hopeful charm that was lost in
the cynicism of later decades. Who knows whether that is true or not? What we do know is that the 1970s
are most definitely in style. Here are a few tips to help you get that vintage, 1970s boho look for yourself:
Think Billowy Shapes:
2. Think floaty maxi dresses in a floral print or a chic blouse with a loose and flowing silhouette and you
will be on the right track. Pair a flowing maxi with some chunky jewelry to complete the look. Or choose
a loose blouse or tunic top with flare sleeves and loose, flowing shape and accents to wear over a great
pair of trousers or tucked loosely into a maxi skirt.
Think Floral:
3.
4. Floral prints are back in a big way and mixing your prints might seem scary but the more you do so, the
more you will get that 70s bohemian vibe you are after. When wearing floral and mixing your prints, just
remember to keep your pallet quit neutral, choose a base colour and work your look up from there.
Earthy and Neutral Colour Pallet:
5.
6. Browns, oranges, beiges, olives, natural greens... these are the colours of the 1970s and can help you to
create a foxy mama/earth mother vibe that will fit right in with the bohemian 1970s theme. Think of the
colours of autumn and you cannot go far wrong. Natural fabrics such as cotton, leather, suede and fur
(these latter three ideally fake, for ethical reasons) are also rather apropos.
Laces, Strings and Fringes:
7.
8. Long laces, loose bows, string close necklines and fringing, on skirts and waistcoats for example, will
also help you to create a 1970s inspired look. Avoid overdoing the fringes and tassels however, or you
could go a bit cowgirl by mistake.
10. The boho look is all about layering. Think about wearing a turtle-neck top under a floral dress and
topping the lot with a chunky sleeveless coat or woollen cardigan or a floaty blouse with wide-leg
trousers or a high-waisted, wrap-around, big-buttoned midi skirt. Perhaps you might complete the look
with a blanket cape thrown over the whole lot.
Whether you mix and match using elements of this vintage style or go the full distance in a time-warp
outfit to impress fashionistas in your circle, you can always improve your look by getting on board with
this dominant fashion trend.
