Sam Herbert - Evaluation

 1. 1. Media analysis
 2. 2. In what ways does you media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products
 3. 3. One way we have challenged conventions is with the main character. we show he is from a non-rural area because of the way he is dressed (in a suit) this easily conveys that he is not meant to be there and something is wrong
 4. 4.

Our idea could be closely related to the film 28 days later as this film clearly shows a person alone in a environment that’s scared them this is the case within our film as it shows one person in a foreign environment which he doesn’t understand

 5. 5. Audience

We have made our main character to look within the age of 18+ this is to make our target audiences which is also 18+ feel that they can relate to the film therefore making it more believable and pleasing the audience and due to our market research both primary and secondary we can see that the user prefers a male main character

 6. 6. Gender representation

Our product openly contradicts the male stereotype this is to make the audience feel unsettled which is one of the sort after elements when making a thriller explained in our market research

The way we contradict the male stereotype is by showing desperation and fear on the characters face where the general opinion is that males are more likely to hardly tough situations and be less scared and cope more in difficult situations

 7. 7. Major institutions

I believe due to the simplicity of our product it would be very easy to replicate our product on a more professional scale this is because it it quite a low budget and easily replicated thus making it a lower risk also our market research displays that people are looking for something either exactly like this product or very similar to ours

 8. 8. Internet release

I believe the product should be available though the internet as this mean there will a lot of views of the product and if there is s dedicated website to reclaim some of the money spent producing the film they can sell of advertising space

 9. 9. One off

I believe the chance of there being a sequel is very slim as the film is about a personal experience which would be solved during the film as a finishing scene

There is a good chance that there could be products made with quotes from the film to gain publicity and to add to the overall revenue of the film

 10. 10. Mise en scene

We have used mise en scene to add to the over all effect this is though the used of abandoned roads to add to the image of the abandoned farm we also used old boxes made of wood to reinforce this point

 11. 11. Target audience

Our target audience despite the rating proberly being lower is 18 this is because once again from our market research both primary and secondary research we realized that 18 year olds will be more willing to see thrillers and don’t mind as much what rating it is and rely more on friends opinions

 12. 12. Attract address

We attract our audience though meeting a lot of the required elements that they asked for in our market research while taking other ideas from the thrillers we have watched

Our product is aimed at 18+

Male and females

We have aimed at these people as we believe they are the main audience for the for the thriller sector category

 13. 13. Age

There are no parts of the film that would terrify any viewers as it is all quite sensible which only implies bad things are going to happen

There are certain bits what appeal to everyone as well for example the driving scenes people can relate to these as it clearly displays him listening to music which the style was decided upon based on our market research

 14. 14. Fast paced -male

We have added a very faced paced shot in as was requested by people in our market research

 15. 15. Variation of shots Over shoulder shot Extreme close up Point of view Long shot
 16. 16.

The audience can only put themselves in the position of one person as there is only one character this is to add to the effect of the film as people are normally seen as more venerable when they are on there own

The audience know there is a another person there but they are unaware what they look like this is to add to the element of fear and un knowing

The impact this has is it add to the fear and also makes the viewer feel more vulnerable

 17. 17. cameras

Due to the low quality of the school cameras we decided to use a camera that was owned by a member of the group we did this because it was a high definition camera which didn’t need a tape and therefore had internal memory which would be more reliable

 18. 18. Problems with filming

We did have problems with filming one problem was with the car shots as with these due to the cars suspension it ended up being very jittery and therefore of lower quality than expected this therefore meant that we could not use the shot and later on due to the change in lighting conditions is makes a slight change in the lighting conditions between shots but due to editing we have tried to make it look as natural and believable as possible

 19. 19. Final cut express

I have learnt that with final cut express you can easily make different shots filmed in different lighting conditions and different places look very similar by editing these features and having items from others moved digitally into other areas

A example if this is displayed in the pictures below where when watching the film you cant notice any difference where with still you can clearly see the above mentioned differences

 20. 20. Prelim task

Since our preliminary task we have realized what shot work well and what shots don’t work for example we have learnt that from a long shot to a medium shot to a close up doesn’t work well except when there is meant to be a nervous atmosphere as this will make the audience feel nervous and un-settled

 21. 21. Fulfillment

I think our product works well in fulfilling the task of what we aimed to do which was to produce a 2-3 minute clip of a thriller film I think this because after testing our product with the audience they all agree it meets what they expect to see in a thriller
