What basically Stirling Engineis? Reciprocating engine. External combustion (get heat from external source). Converts heat energy into mechanical power byalternately compressing and expanding a fixed quantityof the working fluid at different temperatures. Work on both conventional and non conventional sources Efficient , clean & silent
  7. 7. The Stirling engine was developed in 1816 by Robert Stirlingin order to offer an alternative to the frequently explosiveearly steam engines. Basically a closed cylinder containing apiston and helium, nitrogen or hydrogen gas is heated at oneend by concentrated sunlight, and cooled at the other end byair or water. As the gas expands and cools with themovement of the piston, a generator can be driven to produceelectricity. A parabolic dish is used to get heat fromthe sun, and for reflection of sun light thealuminum foil is used there.The size of the parabolic collector isdepending upon the power of stirlingengine.Then a stirling engine is placed at thefocal point of the solar collector.The electric generator is also coupledwith the stirling engine.When cylinder of engine get hot by thesun heat then it starts working thus powerproduces by the generator.MANUFACTURING OF SOLARSTIRLING POWER SYTEM

Advantages of solar stirlingengine The silence of operation. Can run on any available heat source. Supplying heat from continuous combustion process. Some cases, allows the use of lightweight cylinders. The engine mechanisms are simple in many ways. Stirling engines are best for constant speed purpose. Their maintenance cost is very low.
  13. 13. Disadvantages of solarstirling engine The initial cost of the engine It needs to warm up. The problems of sealing. Design complexity. Some stirling engines are large for the amount of power thatthey produce. Losses increased due to regenerator, heater and cooler.

THE SCOPE OF SOLAR STIRLING TECHNOLOGY As we know that today the huge amount ofworld’s power is produced by the fossil fuelsand that is also threaten to the environment. Even the prices of power are increasing dayby day due oil crises and also the trend ofload shedding has been started. So now the trend should be changed thetechnology has to be switched off instead ofrenewable energy resources. The solar stirling technology is best option toproduce maximum power to overcomeenergy crises. The capital cost is high of this technology butthe source of energy is free till the universeends.
