  6. 6. LIFE SKILLS FOR CORPORATES………..Dual challenges in the world market dueto(competition & rapid technologicaladvancements)necessitated a redesign of the workplace into aninnovative work environment known as the highperformance workplace.
  7. 7. LIFE SKILLS FOR CORPORATES………..This environment requires a behaviourand orientation toward work and expectsworkers at all levels to solve problems,create ways to improve the methodsthey use, and engage effectively withtheir co-workers.
  8. 8. FOCUS AREAS OF LIFE SKILLS• Health and social events,• Prevention of drug use,• Sexual violence,• Teenage pregnancy,• HIV/AIDS prevention,• Suicide prevention, etc

WHAT ARE LIFE SKILLS?A Life Skill is an ability that makes a differencein everyday living.Many writers have tried to define life skills : • A Life Skill equips a person to perceive and respond to significant life events. • A Life Skill is a competency which enables a person to live in an interdependent society. • A Life Skill equips a person to be self directing and productive ,to lead a satisfying life and to contribute to society. • A Life Skill enables a person to function effectively in a changing world.
  10. 10. • Life Skills include feelings about one’s self and skills for coping• Life Skills are interpersonal including relationships with others, problem solving and participation to larger human community.• Life Skills are personal – an expression of the self.
  11. 11. • Require thinking or reasoning(the use of one’s mind) • Express feelings(are rooted in one’s emotions) • Symbolize attitudes(reveal one’s posture towards others and life) • Are actions well performed(behaviours in which thought and feelings and attitudesfind a unified expression)

  13. 13. A behaviour change or behaviourdevelopment approach designed toaddress a balance of three areas : • Knowledge • Attitude • Skills-United Nation Children’s Fund(UNICEF)
  14. 14. Life Skills area essentially those abilitiesthat help promote mental well being andcompetence in young people as they facethe realities of life.
  15. 15. In short….Life Skills empower young people to takepositive action to protect themselves andpromote health and positive socialrelationships.
  16. 16. It is easier to change our self and our lifeby changing behaviour and thoughts thantrying to change emotions…….

  21. 21. WITH LIFE SKILLS ONE IS ABLE TO : • Explore alternatives, • Weigh pros and cons, and • Make rational decisions in solving each problem, or issue as it arises.It also entails being able to establishproductive interpersonal relationships withothers
