Homosexuality • is romantic and/or sexual attraction or behavior among members of the same sex or gender • refers to "an enduring pattern of or disposition to experience sexual, affectional, or romantic attractions" primarily or exclusively to people of the same sex • "it also refers to an individual’s sense of personal and social identity based on those attractions, behaviors expressing them, and membership in a community of others who share them.”

Present state • For a majority of the population, including locally trained physicians, psychologists, and social workers, homosexuality is viewed as a perversion and a disease • Teenagers who feel a strong attraction to persons of their own gender at first experience confusion about their feelings and sexuality

Present state • The Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) denied the Filipino LGBT political party Ang Ladlad's petition for permission to run in the 2010 elections, on the grounds of "immorality" • In the 2007 elections, Ang Ladlad was previously disqualified when COMELEC concluded that the LGBT party did not have nationwide membership
  6. 6. Religious Perspective • Almost all religions discourage homosexual activities. • Christianity considers homosexuality a sin. The Bible lays down death penalty for the one who engages in homosexual activities.
  7. 7. Religious Perspective • Islam is against homosexuality. The Quran considers homosexuality as sinful and unnatural. It believes such behavior should not be desired by men and it does not even acknowledge lesbianism. • Hinduism was open to various ideas of sexuality in the medieval times. But the Manuscript does not accept homosexuality.

In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men

Public opinion in Homosexuality • 49% say that homosexual relations between consenting adults should be illegal. • 44% would not permit their child to read a book with a story about a same-sex couple. • 61% say that homosexual marriages should not be legal. • 42% oppose civil unions for homosexuals. • 47% believe that gay spouses should not have the right to adopt children.

  13. 13. • The survey finds that acceptance of homosexuality is particularly widespread in countries where religion is less central in people’s lives. These are also among the richest countries in the world. In contrast, in poorer countries with high levels of religiosity, few believe homosexuality should be accepted by society.
