  3. 3. <ul><li>The goals of MINASINVEST INNOVATION HUB are to facilitate the creation of new university-industry partnerships and to commercialize the results of University-based research with a view to providing an economic return to the partners. </li></ul><ul><li>By connecting new and established companies with the technologies and resources of University, MINASINVEST creates partnerships between researchers and industry in local and global markets. These strategic links generate new venture investment and long term economic benefits for the University, its industrial partners and the community. </li></ul><ul><li>This provides a seamless and highly effective interface where industry needs are matched with university research strengths. </li></ul>Strategic goals

Basis and principles <ul><li>MINASINVEST seeks long term, collaborative relationships between the university and investors to develop and commercialize technologies. </li></ul><ul><li>The University does not create products ready for the marketplace and does not have the entrepreneurial capabilities to commercialize its early stage technologies. </li></ul><ul><li>As a hub of innovation tools and expertises, MINASINVEST holds the necessary capabilities to attract investors. </li></ul><ul><li>University owns the title and all rights to inventions while conducting research using university facilities. of inventions is made to the MINASINVEST INNOVATION HUB discloses “commercializable” projects to the market as their liasion office. </li></ul><ul><li>Since the majority of funds to support research are obtained from the Brazilian taxpayer, the University will give preference to licensees where the technology will be exploited in Brazil. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Because the mission of the University is primarily one of education and research, the University must retain the right to use the technology for research, scholarly publication, education or other non-commercial purposes, and retain reasonable rights to present and publish accounts of its research and all information relating to the technology. </li></ul><ul><li>In managing the university technology portfolio, MINASINVEST seeks a balance between royalty and equity income. MINASINVEST will license technology for either royalty, equity or a combination, depending on the interests of the parties. </li></ul><ul><li>As a public educational institution, the University is unable to expose itself to claims for damages that may arise from the use of any technology. MINASINVEST, along with the Licensee, will take over the corporation´s functions, including insurance arrangements. </li></ul>Basis and principles
  6. 6. <ul><li>To accomplish the goals, MINASINVEST acts as the interface between university, researchers and inventors, industry partners, government bodies, and other groups, organizations and institutions involved in the commercialization of University research and innovations. </li></ul><ul><li>The business of MINASINVEST is, therefore, focused on the requirements of technology transfer and commercialization. </li></ul><ul><li>To this end, MINASINVEST pursues an action plan to enhance the foundation of its business and insure that reasonable returns are provided to inventors, university and external partners. </li></ul>Strategies
  7. 7. <ul><li>Sustain a productive and interactive dialogue with university´s interlocutor - as the primary fuel for the technology transfer process is a continuing flow of ideas from researchers, innovators and students. </li></ul><ul><li>Support research and other projects - as success for university in these areas will translate into opportunities for the MINASINVEST´s partners. </li></ul><ul><li>Increase the profile of the MINASINVEST INNOVATION HUB and university with the private sector - as the success of MINASINVEST is highly dependent upon the ability to effectively broker relationships between the university community, external partners, and the investment community. </li></ul><ul><li>Design and implement sustainable technology transfer models and strategies . MINASINVEST insures that the appropriate due diligence is conducted to realistically evaluate the commercial potential for each new technology and, also, that the commercialization strategies that are used to move each technology into the marketplace demonstrate a positive cost-benefit relationship for all parties involved, both internal and external. </li></ul>Action plan
