The 5 rules of Social media by Miki Lumnitz

  1. Author: Miki Lumnitz * :
  2. *After months of research on social media and more than a year of hands-on experience, I have put in place 5 rules/guidelines for social media How do you make it work? * ?
  3. “ ” – Friends tell friends (find 1000 people that really care - GEEKS) “ ” Worth making a remark about, worth talking about “ ” Users content works not corporate content “ & ” Online and offline have to work hand-in-hand “ ” Giving value before expecting anything in return And… “ / / ”
  4. “ ” – Friends tell friends (find 1000 people that really care - GEEKS)
  5. *“ ” – *In order to create a “Word of mouth” (have friends tell friends) - you need to create a core of people that really care about what you are doing and that they will care enough to spread the word. Or in another words – get the GEEKS for what you are doing. *For that do not start by approaching the mass market *Start with the innovators and the early adaptors – they can become your GEEKS *Find 1000 people that really care - GEEKS X
  6. “ ” Worth making a remark about, worth talking about
  7. *“ ” *In today‟s world people are attacked wherever they go. In order to be noticed you need to be remarkable – worth making a remark about! *Spend 17 min and have a look at Seth Godin presentation in TED: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/seth_godin_on_sliced_bread.ht ml *Or you can start by reading Seth Godin‟s book – Purple Cow
  8. “ ” Users content works not corporate content
  9. *“ ” *Users content works, Corporate content does not work *Make things that encourage people to contribute content. this will be much more effective than creating another fancy promotion video. *People are interested in what other people (just like them) have created – they are not interested in what you, as a corporate have to say
  10. “ & ” Online and offline have to work hand-in-hand
  11. *“ & ” *We are talking about social marketing which is „virtual‟ BUT you must remember that the real social connection are physical, face 2 face, in the real (not virtual) world. *If you want to create a „word of mouth‟ combine offline (physical – real world) elements with online (virtual – social networks) elements
  12. “ ” Giving value before expecting anything in return
  13. *“ ” *Do not try to sell! *Social media is about making a conversation. In order to create a conversation, you need to give value without asking anything in return! *Only after people really listening to you and like the relationship that have been created, you can start asking for things. *Giving value before expecting anything in return
  14. And… The “ / /
  15. *“ / / ” *For every 100 people you approach, 10 will listen to you, only 1 will actively participate. *Sounds strange? Well… it works! *E.g. If you are doing a Facebook ad. For every 100 „Click‟s you will get 10 „Like‟s and from them only 1 will participate actively in the conversation
  16. “ ” – Friends tell friends (find 1000 people that really care - GEEKS) “ ” Worth making a remark about, worth talking about “ ” Users content works not corporate content “ & ” Online and offline have to work hand-in-hand “ ” Giving value before expecting anything in return And… The “ / / ”
