Language: Macbeth vs. Banquo <ul><li>Macbeth: </li></ul><ul><li>Come, seeling night, </li></ul><ul><li>Scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day </li></ul><ul><li>And with thy bloody and invisible hand </li></ul><ul><li>Cancel and tear to pieces that great bond </li></ul><ul><li>Which keeps me pale. </li></ul><ul><li>Banquo: </li></ul><ul><li>This guest of summer, </li></ul><ul><li>The temple-haunting martlet does approve, </li></ul><ul><li>By his loved mansionry that the heaven’s breath </li></ul><ul><li>Smells wooingly here. </li></ul>

Macbeth and Hamlet confront themselves. </li></ul><ul><li>Shakespeare employs the SOLILOQUY to dramatize this introspection. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Doppelgangers Shakespeare's tragic heroes are divided, conflicted people who must confront the terrible ramifications of their choices and actions alone. The gods are conspicuously absent in Shakespeare’s plays. This realization that one must face these horrors alone makes these tragic figures suffer.
