  4. 4. One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him[Jesus]. Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. Then, leaning back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, “Lord, who is it?” John 13:23
  5. 5. Truth. Love. Balance.
  6. 6. Truth John was passionate about Truth His Gospel & Epistles Epistles 1 John = very cut & dry (for God or against Him) 2 John = calls for total separation from falseness 3 John 4 = “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth”
  7. 7. Careless reader will by dismayed He is underscoring that believer’s lives should be dominated by righteousness, not sin
  8. 8. Our Best Often Becomes Our Worst Human depravity turns our gifts into a curse Zeal for Truth can become Judgementalism, harshness, and a lack of compassion Hard work and ambition can become sinful Pride Confidence can become sinful focus on self, making us smug and careless
  9. 9. Where is the Love?
  10. 10. Mark 9 38 "Teacher," said John, "we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us." 39"Do not stop him," Jesus said. "No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.

  15. 15. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and action, yet now he has brought you back as his friend. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body.
  16. 16. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. Colossians 1:21
