TSSG Positioning

Basic Research (HEA, SFI)

One of TOP 3 academic centre's in Ireland in telecommunications

Applied Research (EU FP7)

Irish winner of EU FP7 funding – participating in 11 projects

Ranked Top 10 institute in Europe in Future Internet research

 3. 4. TSSG Positioning Contd…

Commercialisation (EI)

One of the top research groups for commercialisation

Leading edge innovation & technology development in:

IMS

Web 2.0

Mobile

Commercial ‘Spin-offs’ (Separate from TSSG)

Early stage technology clusters emerging based around TSSG work

 5. 6. ICT: Changes are happening everywhere Network of the Future Internet of the Future Networks & Architecture Integration of Networks & Systems Core Communication Technologies (radio, digital, photonics…) Regulation Enabled by technological development Industry - European Industrial Leadership - Innovation / SME’s International Cooperation - Internet of the Future - Satellite (space strategy) Standardization - Intellectual Property - Internal Market - Research cooperation New Business Models IPR Management European Competitiveness in a globalized environment Competition & Consumer Protection
 6. 8.

Experience of FP7 Participation

 7. 9. Benefits to engagement in FP7
 8. 10. Benefits to engagement in FP7
 9. 11. With Industrial engagement in FP7

The TSSG has 116 active partners across 11 projects in FP7

52 Industrial partners which include

 10. 12. What is an FP7 project?

A research proposal addressing an objective and target area, specifying a problem domain, a research agenda, a project plan, a budget and a set of partners (consortium)

The idea for a proposal needs to be consistent with the objectives and targets in the published call text.

 11. 13. Where you could benefit from participation in FP7

Perimeter [STREP EU FP7 ICT]

The Perimeter project is looking to establish a new paradigm of user-centrality for advanced networking. In contrast to network-centric approaches, user-centric strategies could achieve true seamless mobility putting the user at the centre rather than the operator enables the user to control his or her identity, preferences and credentials, and so seamless mobility is streamlined, enabling mobile users to be “Always Best Connected” in multiple-access multiple-operator networks of the Future Internet.

Co-Ordinator = GFI

10 Partners including Turkcell, Telefónica & Traffic Systems

 12. 14. Mobility & Future Networks Yesterday’s view Operator’s (or visited) network Operator USER IDENTITY AAA server Network is the centre 1 contract No choice
 13. 15. Mobility & Future Networks Today’s view Operator’s (or visited) network Operator A USER IDENTITY AAA server Many networks, but still network centric multiple contracts multiple roles/ identities But manual… choice Operator’s (or visited) network Provider B USER IDENTITY AAA server
 14. 16. Tomorrow’s view – User in the Centre Community network NO “old-style” contracts (Single-sign-on-like experience) Pseudonymized identities for privacy Context-based ABC Quality of Experience (in its broadest sense!) Next generation AAA for mobility Primitives for Service Compostion (QoE) ID, Attribs, Prefs,Auth Cred. 3rd party infrastructures PKI / PMI / ID mgmt / Reputation Frameworks
 15. 17. But what are the Issues if you do participate in FP7

Time

Travel

How to share in a collaborative project

What to share in a collaborative project

How to exploit results of the project
