  4. 4. Aims of this meeting <ul><li>To provide an opportunity for networking and collaboration for midwives and midwifery educators </li></ul><ul><li>To explore possibilities of Second Life for midwifery meetings and conferencing </li></ul>

More aims for this meeting <ul><li>To identify possible opportunities this medium may present </li></ul><ul><li>To identify possible barriers this medium may present </li></ul><ul><li>To discuss possibilities for continuing collaboration of midwives and midwifery educators through this medium </li></ul>

Communities of practice E-Mentoring <ul><li>Sarah (Petal) and I have an interest in online social networking for continuing professional development for midwives </li></ul><ul><li>My interest arises from research into rural midwives informing practice </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Information sharing through practice groups and professional networks </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Communities of practice were valued by midwives </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Sarah is exploring supporting midwives in practice through E-mentoring </li></ul>

Could Second Life provide an opportunity for midwifery professional development? <ul><li>Second life is free, open and available to anyone </li></ul><ul><li>Would midwives be willing to gain experience in virtual worlds in order to gather and communicate? </li></ul><ul><li>Takes a lot of time to gain skills before meaningful communication can occur </li></ul>
