Personal Branding – Add/Edit your Profile• Add a photo – professional look• Headline - defaults to current job title – update it to how you want to market yourself (suggested that 80% don’t read beyond here)• Customize your public profile link• Summary section – elevator pitch/accomplishments – 5 to 10 lines• Experience – 2 minimum preferably• Education – 2 minimum preferably• Recommendations - from colleagues (Navigation – Profile)

Personal Branding continued• Add in projects you have worked on• Include languages (be truthful!)• List your skills and areas of expertise (Navigation bar – More)• Get connections to endorse you for these skills• Privacy/Control - who sees what eg your connections, if you view a profile, turn off activity feeds, your email preferences, frequency of group digest emails• To access move your cursor over your name in the top right section of any LinkedIn page & select the Settings option or type https://www.linkedin.com/settings

Build your network• Enter your email address to add connections from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Hotmail etc (Navigation – Add connections)• Upload a csv file (spreadsheet of your contacts) – 3 columns – First name/Last name/Email address• Ask school/college friends/lecturers• Ask people you know/meet one by one• View People You May Know - top right of your profile and invite them to connect• Ask your connections to introduce you to their connections• View all your Connections – (Navigation – Contacts)

Linkedin Groups• A place for professionals in the same industry or with similar interests to share content, find answers, post and view jobs, make business contacts, and establish themselves as industry experts• Join groups you have an interest in and post comments and discussions to educate and engage the group members and show you have a skill set in a particular area• Find groups in the Linkedin Groups Directory or look at suggested groups you may like or set up one yourself

Search• People by name – Basic account gives 100 results• Jobs – refine results by keyword, title, location, degree of your connections, co name, date posted, job function, industry, experience level• Companies – by name - refine results by location, job opportunities, industry, degree of your connections, company size, number of followers, Fortune ranking etc• Groups – refine results by degree of your connections, group category (your/open group/members only) and language• Advanced search – more detailed search by keyword, additional details you input
