Michael Harris IU Kokomo, $1.25 Million Gift for Wellness Center from Milt & Jean Cole, Inspire Power Campaign, Chancellor Michael Harris

  1. 1. Indiana University Kokomo is a world-class regional campus, serving north central Indiana. During this academic year we have welcomed the largest freshman class, seen overall record enrollment increases of nearly 10 percent, and enrolled the highest number of full-time students. We are on the move! We are forward-looking, innovative, and recognize our role in preparing graduates for the changing economy and global competition. Our focus is on academic excellence and student success, making friends and building rela- tionships, and transforming north central Indiana. In a short time, we developed many new initiatives such as 12 new academic degree programs, added online and Friday courses, which give students greater flexibility in class scheduling and enhanced student life. In 2011, we launched men’s basketball and women’s volleyball as club sports and plan to join the National Association of Intercolle- giate Athletics by fall 2012. We are implementing innovative approaches to sav- ing students money, while ensuring degree completion. Our efforts and success have attracted state and national attention. The campus has become a place where students not only get a great educa- tion, but also enjoy studying and spending time in an invigorating environment. IU Kokomo has truly become a cool place to be! We know we must create a sense of community and belonging in order for our students to have the complete college experience and pursue the American dream. While we have made great strides, there is so much more we need to do. I am writing to share with you that we believe a critical component is missing to assure student success – the empowerment of a healthy lifestyle. I am appeal- ing to you to help us bridge that gap. The addition of a Wellness and Fitness Center to IU Kokomo will provide the opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to get together in a positive, healthy environment, and promote the development of lifelong healthy habits. It would also provide opportunities to expand allied health programs, such as sports medicine and athletic training. IU Kokomo is on the move! I enthusiastically invite you to join us and be a part of this incredible journey. I am asking you to please lend your support in the creation of the Wellness and Fitness Center. Your contribution is deeply appreciated, highly valued, and will make a difference in the life of a student. Together we can make a huge difference and assure a future in abundance. Chancellor’s Message Michael Harris, Ph.D. Chancellor and Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs, Education and Business Cheers!
  2. 2. “ I am so excited about the new well- ness and fitness center! It is a wonderful addition for our campus and it provides a great opportunity for students to be involved on campus. The facility does not only benefit our new Men’s Basket- ball and Women’s Volleyball teams; it benefits all students, faculty, and staff and it is another reason for prospective students to choose IU Kokomo. The wellness and fitness center is another accomplishment that shows we are ‘On the Move.’” – Kyla Alexander, IUK Student “ It is very exciting to know that IU Kokomo is building a new wellness and fitness center. The facility is another addition to the list of benefits that IUK has to offer. What a great investment into the lives of the students, faculty, and staff of IU Kokomo.” – Lisa Weaver, B.S. ‘99 The 20,500-square-foot facility will house: • A jogging and walking track • A cardio and strength training area • Two multi-purpose rooms • A health studies classroom • Locker rooms • A reception area give now Online Giving: www.iuk.edu
  3. 3. IU Kokomo is committed to making our region an even better place to live-and we are on the move toward that goal. We pledge to continue enhancing our role in north central Indiana as an engine for economic development and transformation. But the well-being of our re- gion cannot depend on one Moving forward, together entity alone; it requires a coalition. To sustain our collective momentum, we need partners and friends who share our commitment to continued progress. You can be a leader in advancing our campus and our region. Indeed, contri- butions from alumni, com- munity, friends, business, and government leaders are often the margin of difference in achieving excellence in campus initiatives. Move with us as we strive for regional transformation: support the Wellness and Fitness Center at IU Kokomo. Together, we will continue moving forward.
