Azerbaijan Museum is the major archaeological and historical museum in Tabriz, in the northwest part of Iran (East Azerbaijan province). Many of the pieces on display have been found from excavations throughout Azerbaijan Province, with the oldest piece dating from the 5th millenium BC.
The items are displayed in cases in chronological order. Clear explanations are given in Persian and English.

  2. 2. Muzeul Azerbaijan ( sau Tabriz Museum) este cel mai important muzeu de arheologie şi istorie în afarã de Muzeul Iranului din Teheran. Înfiinţat în anul 1958 în capitala provinciei Azerbaijan conţine obiecte descoperite cu ocazia sãpãturilor efectuate în aceastã zonã. Conţine de asemenea şi lucrãri de artã realizate de diferiţi artişti. Azerbaijan Museum is the major archaeological and historical museum in Tabriz, in the northwest part of Iran (East Azerbaijan province). It was established on April 1958. It mostly contains objects discovered from excavations in Iranian Azerbaijan also some artworks and sculptures of artists. Apart from National Museum of Iran in Tehran, Azerbaijan Museum has the largest collection belonging to different periods of Iran's history.

For most of her history, the territory of the present-day Republic of Azerbaijan was a part of Persian Empire, specifically during the reign of dynasties such as Achaemenid, Parthian, Sassanid. But in the past 1000 years I ran was controlled by turkic dynasties like qajar, safavid, timurid, ilkhanid, seljukid,... The South Caucasus, in general, has been influenced by Iranian culture for thousands of years. Much of the Caucasus was occupied by Russian troops during the 19th century and formally ceded to Russia by Iran, under the terms of the treaties of Gulistan and Turkmenchay. Due to historical, cultural, and religious ties, the Republic of Azerbaijan is considered as a part of Greater Iran. Azerbaidjanul istoric , odinioară parte a Imperiului Persan, este actualmente împărțit între Azerbaidjan (Azerbaidjanul de Nord) și Iran. Acesta din urmă a cedat Rusiei, Azerbaidjanul de Nord, prin tratatele din 1 813 și 1828 când 66% din teritoriul național a fost anexat de Iran (circa 200.000 km), restul de către Rusia. Partea rusească a Azerbaidjanului și-a câștigat independența, o dată în 1918 (pentru doar 2 ani) și apoi în 1991 , sub numele de Azerbaidjan, iar în sud (Azerbaidjanul iranian) locuiesc încă 18.000.000 (neoficial 25.000.000-30.000.0000) de azeri, adică de 3 ori mai mulți decât în Azerbaidjan. Din punct de vedere istoric, cultural și religios Azerbaijanul este parte a Marelui Iran etnic şi cultural.
