Wat Preah Prohm Rath is relatively new, having been founded in 1915. The main vihara was constructed in 1945. The wat was built in honor of Preah Ang Chang-han Hoy, who lived from 1358 until 1456. He used to travel across Tonle Sap Lake every morning to collect alms at Longwek and would return to Siem Reap to have lunch. One day he was in the middle of the lake when "his boat was cut by shark" however, by some miracle the two pieces did not sink.

  • Wat Preah Prohm Rath is relatively new, having been founded in 1915. The main vihara was constructed in 1945. The wat was built in honor of Preah Ang Chang-han Hoy, who lived from 1358 until 1456. He used to travel across Tonle Sap Lake every morning to collect alms at Longwek and would return to Siem Reap to have lunch. One day he was in the middle of the lake when "his boat was cut by shark;" however, by some miracle the two pieces did not sink. One is at Wat Boribo and replaced a standing Buddha; the other is at Wat Preah Prohm Rath and replaced a reclining Buddha. A replica of the boat was built in 2007. The the wat grounds also hold two large cannons said to have belonged to the larger-than-life 20th century warlord, Dap Chhoun. Wat Preah Prohm Rath is a very pretty, quiet place near downtown Siem Reap http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Asia/Cambodia/Khett_Siem_Reab/Siem_Reap-1194614/Things_To_Do-Siem_Reap-TG-C-1.html#ixzz1EskB64rS
  • Wat Preah Prohm Rath one of the oldest monastery in Siem Reap in term of running time, has a history approximately 500 years. The King Ang Chan, who dedicated this monastery to Preah Ang Chang-Han Hoy and to the spirits of Ta Pom Yeay Rat. This temple was also established for propagate the Dhama (the Buddha teaching), and to provide lodging for monks., as many of them who came to Siem Reap who did not has lodging at that time. It was built in late 15th and early of 16th century, situated on the land of the rich family of Ta Pum Yeay Rath.
  • According to spoken source, we are told that this monastery was a sacred residence of Preah Ang Chang-Han Hoy who was a revered monk living in 13th and 14th century. It was believed that every class of Khmer people came to worship him, especially king Ang Chan who came to pray for the victory as the kingdom was unstable. When the kingdom became stable, the rich family mentioned above provided its sacred land to king Ang Chan to establish monastery, thus became Ta Pum Yeay Rath Monastery. Then in the 1940s, under the most venerable monk, the former abbot of the monastery, it was renamed as Wat Preah Prom Rath as it is now.
  • Master Monk names (Tang Ton) who was in charged of leading this monastery for many years, he with his eldest brother (monk too) was in charge of taking care of this monastery and it seems lot of progress compare to other monasteries in Siem Reap. But it is not a biggest monastery in the area who has nearly 20 monks stay and study here. Monk Tang Toem is an elder brother, who is in charge of the monastery construction. He works really hard almost everyday to collect donations from the generous people and use that money to support the whole monastery, he could remove your bad luck by pouring blessing water and be an astrologer too. Ask for him when you get into Wat Preah Prom Rath.
  • Preah Ang Chan-han Hoy Please note the monastery is a holy place where all Buddha Dhama and Sangha are staying, respect them by remove your hat or cap, women not allow to touch the monks, not to sexy, cover your shoulder, pant under knees. theangkorguide.blogspot.com/.../ wat - preah -prom- rath

    1. 2. SIEM REAP Numele Siem Reap care înseamnã „ înfrângerea siamezilor” pare cel puţin o ironie, ştiind cã Siem Reap şi Angkor au fost stãpânite de la 1797 la 1907 de Siam
