  • Detail from Norma Salt's 'Picasso's Cat--El Gato,' on exhibit at the Flagler County Art LeagueThe Flagler County Art League chose to devote its newest show to a similar leap. “Picasso’s Legacy” was  an invitation to local artists to take their shot at cubism or anything else that struck their palette. So they have.Norma Salt entered an acrylic pun of her own with “Picasso’s Cat–El Gato,” the cat’s head managing to look more devious than the mice scurrying behind it, the black cat itself sitting primly on a parquet of red cubes.

    21. View of the room used by Earnest Hemingway to write in Key West, Florida. One example of a discovery of a Picasso work is a cat sculpture found in thebasement of none other than author Ernest Hemingway. In 1974, after the deathof Picasso, Hemingways first wife discovered a cracked cat sculpture, which wasa gift from the artist to Hemingway. Picasso and Hemingway were friends in the1920s in Paris, and Picasso gave the sculpture to Hemingway because he knewthat he was fond of cats. Unfortunately, in 2000 the original was broken beyondrepair by a thief and now a replica stands in his home in Key West, Florida.
