PublicEarth Demo

  1. 1. Click on Sign Up!<br />Type in in your web browser<br />
  2. 2. Use your school email and password<br />Username: Keep it as simple as possible, my username is mmccabe. Your username will be left on all places you edit or create<br />
  3. 3. If you did it right, your username will appear. You can now click on &apos;My Profile&apos; if you want to add more. Lets click on PlaceBook<br />
  4. 4. Your PlaceBook is a collection of your spots. You have &apos;tagged&apos; each of these spots. You can classify your &apos;tags&apos; in several different ways. <br />
  5. 5. To create a place, click the &apos;Create&apos; tab and adjust the area you&apos;re &apos;Exploring&apos; by hitting the change button. You can enter Zip codes, States, cities, or latitude and longitudes. Try changing the location to 54136. Now enter &apos;Kimberly 54136&apos;.<br />
  6. 6. Hopefully your in Kimberly, WI & not Sweden. Now to create a new point, all you have to do is select the &apos;point&apos; button and drag the blue P to where you want to create the location. Click the P in place and give it a name. <br />
  7. 7. I prefer to use &apos;Hybrid&apos; view so I can get a better perspective on where I&apos;m putting down the point. Once you&apos;ve made your location, you have now established a &apos;Pin Location&apos;<br />
  8. 8. A Pin Location is the exact location of a place, trail, group, region, country, etc<br />There is only one pin location per place, if you find &apos;CORE Charter School&apos;, you&apos;ll notice the creator is mmccabe.<br />Take some time in the Search & Explore area to search out your area. <br />
  9. 9. Your Assignment<br />What places are not listed on PublicEarth? Think about places personal to you that may not be easily accessible from Googling...<br />Think About<br />Favorite family owned business, video game store, movie store, restaurant...<br />Hunting Land<br />Bike Trails<br />Basketball Courts<br />Swimming Pool<br />Time to be original. This is an opportunity to exhibit 21st Century skills such as Problem Solving & Critical Thinking, as well as, Good Communication and Collaboration. YOU NEED TO CREATE A PLACE, FRIEND A CLASSMATE, AND COMMENT ON ONE OF THEIR PLACES. Take it one step at a time.<br />
