  2. 2. About the Product: True spirit is an e-commerce site for school uniforms. It allows parents to purchase all clothing and select items required by their schools, navigate the site via an automated shopping list and purchase additional school-branded merchandise.  About the Project: TrueSpirit is a new internet retailer for schools and parents who want modern school uniforms for K­12 children. The company was looking to build a strong web presence to match the modern brand ethos and create a seamless experience from browsing to targeted search to purchase completion.   6. 6. DESIGN RESEARCH Method: With a group of three participants, I pursued a card-sorting exercise to gain insights on the best ways to group product categories for ease of navigation. A class of 19 other designers doing the same exercise also shared their results, further revealing common patterns for sorting the category names. Findings: It was common for participants to separate both boys and girls clothing into four meta-categories: tops, bottoms, outerwear & accessories. School-branded items were typically left in their own separate category, given their unisex nature. Opportunities Identified: All of our products could be grouped under the three sub-headings: boys, girls and school-branded products. Saturday, December 7, 2013

DESIGN ITERATION | DESIGN HYPOTHESIS ITERATION 1 Method: I started by diagramming two separate paths users would likely take (based on personas provided by the company) to locate products and complete a purchase. I also created a site map to develop a general structure for the site’s contents. The combination of these two exercises then served as a basis for wireframe concepts that I initially drew by hand, then inputted into Omnigraffle--a standard wireframing software application. Opportunities Identified: Through this process, I found there were many opportunities to help two of our persona characters to overcome their likely concerns: One parent primarily wants an efficient experience. Another is new to private schools and wants some assurance that her purchase decisions are right. Saturday, December 7, 2013

DESIGN ITERATIONS | PROTOTYPE Method: When basic wireframes were completed for the major pages on the site, I inputted these into an online prototyping application to test navigation with potential users. LE P AM S Saturday, December 7, 2013 FIRST RUN AND CHECKOUT The prototype largely focuses on the first-run experience of connecting up with a school’s suggested shopping list, locating a product and completing a purchase. CORE PRODUCT EXPERIENCE - A global navigation to locate product categories - A find-school flow to help parents retrieve a dresscode and school-approved items. - Filtering options for product category pages - Product pages that also present similar/ complimentary items as well as user-generated product reviews that privilege same-school entries - A shopping bag that leads to a checkout flow
