  6. 6. Pizza Hut Tries the Sandwich Market Again"When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie," the song goes, "thats amore." Butthere is little love lost when a big maker of pizza pie gets hit in the eye with the successof sandwiches.Pizza Hut, the nations biggest pizza chain, will challenge sandwich shops - particularlythose bearing the name of the category leader, Subway - with a new item, backed by alarge campaign that is to begin on Sunday. The product, called a PZolo, is shaped like asandwich, comes in sandwich varieties like Buffalo chicken and "meat trio" and is pricedlike a sandwich, at $3 apiece or two for $5.The $5 price is no random number, as it echoes what Subway charges for its popularfoot-long sub sandwiches. The campaign to introduce the PZolo, by the Martin Agency inRichmond, Va., is replete with references to Subway, including lines like "Say so long tothe footlong" and "More bang for your 5 bucks.” numantra.comLink: 214.635.2300

  13. 13. Promoting Nutrition, Disney to Restrict Junk-Food AdsThe Walt Disney Company, in an effort to address concerns about entertainments role inchildhood obesity, plans to announce on Tuesday that all products advertised on its child-focused television channels, radio stations and Web sites must comply with a strict newset of nutritional standards. The restrictions on ads extend to Saturday-morning cartoons on ABC stations owned byDisney. Under the new rules, products like Capri Sun drinks and Kraft Lunchables meals -both current Disney advertisers - along with a wide range of candy, sugared cereal andfast food, will no longer be acceptable advertising material. The initiative, which Disney plans to detail Tuesday at a Washington news conferencewith the first lady, Michelle Obama, stretches into other areas. For instance, Disney willreduce the amount of sodium by 25 percent in the 12 million childrens meals servedannually at its theme parks, and create what it calls fun public service announcementspromoting child exercise and healthy eating. numantra.comLink: 214.635.2300
