Celebrating Cornelia’s Birthday

 1. 1. Celebrating Cornelia’s Birthday
 2. 2. † Sign of the Cross Sung refrain: Call upon the Lord and he will hear you. (All repeat) Leader: Today we gather to give thanks and praise for the gift of Cornelia Connelly’s life for the good of the Church and for the education of children. All: May we try each and every day to follow, as she did, the example of Jesus.
 3. 3. Praying with Cornelia

Cornelia Peacock,

born in Philadelphia

on January 15, 1809,

was the youngest

child of a large family.

Her father died when she was 9; by age 14 she lost both parents, and went to live with her married sister.

 4. 4. Leader : Cornelia Connelly, servant of God, you were given the grace to listen to God in prayer. You learned, even as a young person, to trust in God’s care for you and for those you loved. All: Help us, dear Lord, to place all of our trust in you.
 5. 5. Cornelia’s Personality

attractive, intelligent, and well-educated;

lively personality;

strong-minded, sometimes hot-tempered, and sometimes a bit untidy!

 6. 6. Leader: We all have gifts and talents, and we also have parts of ourselves that need “work.” Cornelia teaches us that if we try day by day… to desire what God desires, and to love what God loves, God will indeed bless us and do great things for us. All: We are God’s “Work of Art.” Help us, Lord, to grow and become all you desire us to be.
 7. 7.

God gave Cornelia a heart full of love, so she could do great things!

People who love also know that suffering and loss are all part of the human story.

People who love learn to trust that, only in God can we do great things!

All:

O God, help us to love!

 8. 8.

All:

We thank God for Cornelia Connelly!

We thank Cornelia for her vision,

and for the example she gives of love

to our Church, our world, our country and our school.

O God, give us, too, a “love full of action.”

Glory be to God whose power working in us

can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine!
