Introduction:

The mission of APM Benefits Management Specific Interest Group [BM SIG] is:

“To be a recognised driving force and source of leadership in developing and nurturing a community of benefits management practitioners and stakeholders, facilitating collaboration and information sharing on proven and emergent practice.”

The discipline of Benefits [Realisation] Management has been around for 25 years and BM SIG for 5 and it is time to reflect on what has been achieved.

#APMbmsummit is the opportunity to look back, take stock of the passed – the successes, failure and lessons learned and reimagine a future for the profession for the next 25 years. We believe that Benefits Management has been ‘waiting in the wings’ for long enough will soon take its rightful place - centre stage of Strategic Planning and Delivery Governance.

#APMbmsummit is delighted to be working closely with colleagues from Australia and New Zealand who share our vision and will related similar experiences that chime with our own. Along with UK they are a key player in the fast growing global BM network.

#APMbmsummit, will comprise 6 speaker-led sessions and 6 workshops in our, easy-to-reach, central London location. The event is great value. It will provide a well-deserved opportunity for delegates to learn and network with others who are passionate about creating business value and realising benefits from their own projects and programmes.

The objectives of this event are to:-

To establish #APMbmsummit as the annual ‘must attend’ UK conference for Benefits Management
To further the science and art of Benefits Management worldwide
To provide a forum for sharing knowledge and good practice
To provide delegates with great networking, learning opportunities and professional development
To support the development of a growing community of benefits management practitioners and stakeholders
To provide an oasis and motivation in the busy lives of delegates

[McKinsey 2012] Both causes of failure can be addressed through the process of engaging stakeholders in the production of a benefits map. The interactive process of creating these maps drives stakeholders towards a consensus definition of project success, and contributes to a well- defined business case. The resultant maps may be used throughout the life-cycleto analyze impacts on benefits. BRIEFING & DISCUSSION  Introduction – aligning projects with strategy  Review of different benefit mapping techniques  Case studies and examples of mapping workshops  Workshop Simulation Topic Workshop Scenario: Government legislation change enables mortgage applications to be filed and processed electronically Workshop will simulate a benefit mapping workshop to identify the value chains between project outputs and business outcomes, including the necessary business changes that required. The workshop will finish with a demonstration of appropriate supporting tools. Matt Williams is Managing Director of Connexion Systems, an Australian- based provider of innovative services and systems that enable project organisations to maximize business value generated from capital investments.
