14. ABSTRACT
T his study aimed to provide information
on the awareness of selected students of
PUP Main on Environmental Science
concepts for the First Semester, School
Year 2008-2009. The descriptive
correlation method of research was
utilized. Results show that the students
in general, possess satisfactory
knowledge, desirable attitude and
desirable practices towards
environmental conservation.

15. Rationale
Youth have always been
regarded with both special
concerns and special
responsibilities in relation to
the environment.
Undoubtedly, they would be
greatly affected by a number
of environment risks and
hazards we all inherited from
our ancestors. They are
expected to engage in new
form of environmental action
and activism that will
hopefully generate more
effective responses to
environmental challenges.

16. Though we are waking up
to the need to change our
attitudes and practices
concerning the
environment, our efforts are
not exerted fast enough to
avert the dire consequences
of our negligence. We as
educators should then
work hard together so as
to motivate our youth to
save our environment
not only for themselves
but also for the future
generations.

information on the awareness of
selected students of PUP Main on
Environmental Science concepts for
the First Semester, School Year
2008-2009.

18. Methodology
• The descriptive correlation
investigation method of research was
used which aimed at determining the
knowledge on, attitudes towards, and
practices on environmental
conservation among selected students
of Polytechnic University of the
Philippines, Sta. Mesa, Manila and the
relationships of the variables to each
other.

19. The test and questionnaires were
administered to 394 students
randomly selected. In determining
the number of respondents, the
Slo vin formula or sample size was
used. Students were selected using
the stratified proportional random
sampling.

20. The data needed for the study were
obtained using the Test of
Knowledge on Environmental
Conservation, the Questionnaires on
Attitudes and Practices Towards
Environmental Conservation
designed by Mr. Marvin L.
Cadorniga of Philippine Science
High School Western Visayas.

21. The questionnaires were
divided into three parts:
• Part I. Test of Knowledge on
Environmental Conservation for PUP
students
• Part II. Questionnaires on Attitudes
Towards Environmental Conservation
for PUP students
• Part III. Questionnaires on Practices
Towards Environmental Conservation
for PUP students

22. Statistical Treatment
• The proponent conducted the
tests in the different colleges
in PUP Sta. Mesa, Manila
which were randomly
selected. The data were
tabulated, analyzed and
interpreted using mean as
inferential statistics.

environmental conservation. 124 out
of 394 students or 31.47 have
“good” knowledge on
environmental conservation.
• The students, in general, possess
satisfactory knowledge on
environmental conservation.

31. RECOMMENDATIONS
• Curriculum planners should integrate
environmental concepts in all subjects.
• Deans and chairpersons of all college/subject
areas should include all discussions of
environmental science concepts in Faculty
Development Seminars.
• Researches are encouraged to conduct similar
studies in other schools.
• Administrators, deans, and chairpersons should
hold meetings to discuss environmental science
concepts to improve awareness among the
stakeholders.
• Government should intensify information
dissemination campaigns on environmental
concerns
