  2. 2. WORDPRESS.COM:WordPress.com is free and very easy to use. There is no need for a domain namebecause there is the option to use a yourname.wordpress.com domain. The otheroption is to register a domain through wordpress for $12 per year.WordPress.com offers many different safety nets that prevent members frombreaking their own sites. Some of these features include security, backups, setup, and upgrades. This makes it difficult for those just starting out to make their siteunusable. This version of WordPress does have some limitations, in particular there are alimited number of themes available. 3. 3. WORDPRESS.ORG:This is the self-hosted version and requires a web hosting company to host theblog which costs money. Shared hosts cost anywhere from $5-$10/month. A regis-tered domain name is required because with this version there is no option to havea WordPress domain name.Installation of WordPress is required with the WordPress.org version which canprove to be difficult. There are web hosting companies that offer one click installa-tions making this process much easier. WordPress does offer detailed installationinstructions that will help with this part if one click installation isn’t an option.Although this option is more trouble to get up and running the access to plugins andcustom themes, which are not available on WordPress.org, are worth it. Themesare an option with WordPress.org though the options are limited and there are notmany options for customization.WordPress.org provides access to literally thousands of plugins that enhance SEO,create forms, and compress images. These plugins make it easy to customize andenhance a website for users. It is possible to make money with a WordPress.orgsite through Adsense or by turning the site into an ecommerce solution. This is ahuge benefit and is a huge reason why many people start websites to begin with. The drawbacks to using WordPress.org are backups and protection from trafficspikes. To solve both of these problems make sure that there are regular backupsfor the site and if the desired outcome happens and the site becomes an overnightsuccess there are plugins that can be used to handle the additional traffic. 4. 4. Recommendations:If the site is going to just be a simple informational blog it is safe to assume that us-ing WordPress.com would be just fine. One thing to consider is that you don’t ownWordpress.com websites, so there is a slight chance that WordPress could decideto delete it if they don’t like the content. If the site is needed for ecommerce or to generate money at any point, just gofor the Wordpress.org site. While it is possible to convert a site once it has beencreated that can affect SEO rankings, let alone the added hassle of changing thesite over and the inconvenience for the audience.
