  3. 3. Part 2: Professional Development Planning My campus uses technology and information gained from the AEIS, AYP, StaR chart and many other sources to guide the campus curriculum and instructional and professional development needs. As the math facilitator, it is my responsibility to make decisions regarding technology and new programs. Research and funding are crucial to obtaining the most useful forms of technology to meet the needs of our students. We must consider the most at-risk students so we can bring them up to a level where they can succeed and graduate. Last year the campus acquired a new mathematics tutoring program to be used with students who did not pass the TAKS math test and are struggling in their math class. These students were targeted using the AEIS report and TAKS data. We believe with extra encouragement and assistance, they can close the learning gap and improve their problem solving skills. The program, called Apangea, offers support in eight languages. Additionally, Apangea offers personal help from a live math tutor. Students earn points by answering questions correctly. They redeem their points and earn prizes and gift cards. Another way our campus is helping our students use technological advances is through daily warm-ups using the Microsoft Powerpoint program. The math facilitators develop warm-ups which are cloned TAKS questions and are set up in a user friendly format for teachers to present to their students daily. The Texas Essentials of Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) objectives are spiraled in based on the data received from curriculum and TAKS assessments given every grading cycle. We use the program, Edugence, to scan and analyze data and to give us the necessary information for guiding the warm-up content and goals. In addition, our district purchased Qwizdom units which teachers use to engage the students in the classroom. The new Qwizdom Interact offers many activities and games which help make learning fun. It is easy for our teachers to make an original activity or they can choose from hundreds of activities offered in the Qwizdom database. My campus is proficient in using data gained from the AEIS report, the AYP reports and other assessments to guide our curriculum. We hope that we can incorporate some changes in instructional practices in order to help our students perform
  4. 4. better on standardized test. Adding podcasting and web conferencing will be useful for teachers who may be attending conferences. This will prevent the class from losing instructional time. Web conferencing will also provide parents and teachers another avenue to communicate. COWS and flip cameras will engage students in the lesson like never before. Projects can be completed in cooperative learning groups to add to the power of learning. The following professional development plan will help the campus reach its goal of being a recognized campus.
