  3. 3. History  <ul><li>Columbus was the first European that discovered Limón in 1502. </li></ul><ul><li>Limón was conquered by the Americans to plant their bananas plants. </li></ul><ul><li>Then they win their independence and stay with Costa Rica. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Limón Dialects Limón is divided in 6 Cantons, where speak different Dialects. We will explain one of this dialects, that is the Caribbean english.

Caribbean English <ul><li>Some caracteristics of the Caribbean English: </li></ul><ul><li>Phonology </li></ul><ul><li>Two consonants after a vowel is reduced to a single consonant: </li></ul><ul><li>last = las </li></ul><ul><li>bend= ben </li></ul><ul><li>The Caribbean Creole English is a phoneme [y] </li></ul><ul><li>after consonants (k ) and ( g )before a central vowel (a ). </li></ul><ul><li>car = kyar </li></ul><ul><li>can't = kyan't </li></ul><ul><li>The Caribbean English are influenced by the Irish English and Spanish </li></ul><ul><li>syntax </li></ul><ul><li>Remove the verbs They don’t mark the tense </li></ul><ul><li>She bored </li></ul><ul><li>We real good Yesterday I fall asleep = Yesterday I fell asleep </li></ul>
