  4. 4. • General guidelines The principles are guidelines to action but do not provide readymade solution to all managerial problems as the real business situation are very complex.
  5. 5. • Formed by practice and experimentation The principles of management are formed by the management experts through observation and tested through repeated experimentation.
  6. 6. • Flexible The principles of management are not rigid. They are flexible and can be modified by the manager as per the given situation so as to achieve the desired goals.
  7. 7. • Mainly behavioural The principles of management aims at influencing behavior of human being in a desired manner.
  8. 8. • Cause and effect relationship The principles of management seek to establish relationship between cause and effect so that they can be used in similar situation.
  9. 9. • Contingent The application of principles of management is contigent or dependent upon the prevailing situation at a particular point of time.

  21. 21. 1. Division of work Work should be divided in smaller parts and specific task should be given to one person according to their capability, qualification and experience. According to this principle there should be a division of work for all type of work which is done in an organization.
  22. 22. • Authority and responsibility Authority means power to take decisions whereas responsibility refers to obligation to complete the work on time. According to this principle there should be a balance between authority and responsibility.
  23. 23. • Discipline According to this principle there should be a proper discipline at all the levels of management.
  24. 24. • Unity of command Command refers to giving instructions for works. According to this principle an employee should receive orders from one boss/superior to avoid any confusion.
  25. 25. • Unity of direction According to this principle one unit means one plan. All the efforts of all the members or organization must be directed towards one direction which is achievement of common goal.
  26. 26. • Subordination of individuals interest to general interest According to this principle the interest of organization must supersede the interest of individuals. Supersede – be superior to.
  27. 27. • Remuneration to employees According to this principle, employees in the organization must be paid fairly to give them maximum satisfaction.
  28. 28. • Centralisation and Decentralisation Centralisation refers to concentration of authority at top level whereas Decentralisation refers to evenly distribution of power at every level of management. According to this principle there must be a combination between centralisation and decentralisation depending upon the nature and size of organization.
  29. 29. • Principle of scalar chain Scalar chain means line of authority from higher to lower level. According to this principle scalar chain must be followed strictly. But In the time of emergency employees can communicate directly, it is also known as gang plank.
  30. 30. • Principle of order According to this principle there must be a fixed place in the organization for everything used in the organization and for everyone. There should be a proper order.
  31. 31. • Principle of equity According to this principle there should be kindness and justice in the behavior of manager towards workers. This will ensure loyalty and devotion. There should be no discrimination against anyone on the basis of their gender identity, skin color, taste, religion, caste and etc.
