  2. 2. WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA?  Participatory online media that utilizes the group to write and direct content, rather than a read-only media. Allows for direct contact between participants. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=social%20media  The big examples of this is Facebook, Youtube and Twitter.
  3. 3. WHAT DOES MAKE MEDIA SOCIAL?  We believe that what makes media social is the piece of media itself. What we mean is if the X-factor for example had a controversial result then the audience wants to voice their opinion about it anyway they can. This could be via Social network sites or blogs or even just talking to people they know about it.
  4. 4. THE NEWNESS OF SOCIAL MEDIA  A key aspect to remember with Social media is that its not something that has only been around for the last 20 years. Social media doesn’t mean it has to be web based. The web has enabled people from all over the globe to discuss issues etc. But social media like said on previous slide could just be people talking.
