  2. 2. <ul><li>Founded in 1992 by NBA legends and visionaries Dave Bing, Dave </li></ul><ul><li>DeBusschere, Archie Clark, Dave Cowens and Oscar Robertson. </li></ul><ul><li>A non-profit association comprised of former professional basketball players </li></ul><ul><li>from the NBA, ABA and Harlem Globetrotters. </li></ul><ul><li>Led by former NBA player Danny Schayes and a Board of Directors consisting </li></ul><ul><li>of former NBA and ABA players. </li></ul><ul><li>Mission: to develop, implement and advocate an array of programs to benefit </li></ul><ul><li>its members, sponsors and the community.   3. 3. <ul><li>The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic is a one-day Basketball and Healthy Living </li></ul><ul><li>Choices clinic open to up to 200 boys and girls ages 10 to 18. </li></ul><ul><li>The goal of the clinic is to educate the participants about proper diet and </li></ul><ul><li>exercise, and how to make healthy living choices. </li></ul><ul><li>The clinic is consistent with Aetna’s goal of eliminating childhood </li></ul><ul><li>obesity by teaching children and their families the importance of healthy eating </li></ul><ul><li>and exercise. </li></ul>The NBRPA Presents: The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic
  4. 4. <ul><li>Four NBA Legends will coach the kids and coordinate the clinic under the </li></ul><ul><li>direction of NBA Championship Legend Lucius Allen, formerly of the Milwaukee </li></ul><ul><li>Bucks. </li></ul><ul><li>Children will learn new basketball skills and techniques, along with lessons </li></ul><ul><li>about proper diet and exercise, healthy eating habits, proper nutrition, and </li></ul><ul><li>more. </li></ul><ul><li>Guest speakers representing the NBRPA will provide the children with fun and </li></ul><ul><li>educational information throughout the day and send them home with on-going </li></ul><ul><li>(basketball and healthy living) activities that they can practice after the one day </li></ul><ul><li>clinic. </li></ul>The NBRPA Presents: The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic
  5. 5. <ul><li>A team of nutritional experts will also work with the participants, and provide </li></ul><ul><li>take-home materials, refrigerator magnets and other materials for them to give </li></ul><ul><li>to their parents or guardians. </li></ul><ul><li>Nutritional experts will perform weight and body mass index readings for each </li></ul><ul><li>child during the event, provide personal analysis on those findings, and make </li></ul><ul><li>individual recommendations for each child and their parents or guardians to </li></ul><ul><li>ensure that The Basketball 4 Life Clinic enhanced their nutritional efforts after </li></ul><ul><li>the clinic. </li></ul><ul><li>The Team of Nutritionists will also provide a comprehensive report on the </li></ul><ul><li>actual program’s elements to Aetna for the company’s future efforts to tackle </li></ul><ul><li>childhood obesity.   6. 6. <ul><li>Members of the Cedars – Sinai Medical Center will be on hand to perform health </li></ul><ul><li>screenings not only for the children, but for their parents or guardians as well. </li></ul><ul><li>The NBRPA has an ongoing relationship with Cedars – Sinai through a wide </li></ul><ul><li>range of Community Benefit programs that serve vulnerable populations. </li></ul><ul><li>Cedars - Sinai Medical Center provides free or low-cost care for the needy and, </li></ul><ul><li>in partnership with many community organizations, offers hundreds of health </li></ul><ul><li>education programs and screenings in local schools, homeless shelters, and </li></ul><ul><li>community centers. </li></ul>The NBRPA Presents: The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic

  10. 10. <ul><li>The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic is a perfect fit for Aetna’s goal of </li></ul><ul><li>eliminating diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension and other medical </li></ul><ul><li>issues that affect minority communities and the populous in general. </li></ul><ul><li>The clinic will be led by former NBA Legend Lucius Allen and other former NBA </li></ul><ul><li>players who are considered mentors to the kids that will be attending the clinic. </li></ul><ul><li>A well respected team of health professionals will be represented at the Aetna </li></ul><ul><li>Basketball 4 Life Clinic including Aetna partner Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. </li></ul><ul><li>Additionally, three professional nutritionists will be on-hand to help provide the </li></ul><ul><li>participants and their parents and guardians the foundation for a life-long </li></ul><ul><li>program of personal health development. </li></ul>The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic: Helping Aetna to meet their goals
  11. 11. <ul><li>Lucius Allen is a legendary National Basketball </li></ul><ul><li>Association player who played for such great </li></ul><ul><li>teams as the Seattle Supersonics, Kansas City </li></ul><ul><li>Kings, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles </li></ul><ul><li>Lakers. </li></ul><ul><li>He was also a member of the 1971 NBA </li></ul><ul><li>Championship Milwaukee Bucks where he </li></ul><ul><li>played with UCLA teammate Kareem Abdul </li></ul><ul><li>Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor. </li></ul><ul><li>Allen spent three seasons of his decade-long </li></ul><ul><li>career with the Lakers, finishing third on the </li></ul><ul><li>team in scoring in 1975-76 and 1976-77. </li></ul>The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic Staff: NBA Legend Lucius Allen

The Aetna Basketball 4 Life Clinic Staff: Lari Bright, Registered Dietitian <ul><li>Lari Bright is a Registered Dietitian as well as an athlete, business owner, mother, and scientist who has significant experience educating the public about nutrition. </li></ul><ul><li>Ms. Bright has worked with the Pepperdine basketball team, the children of the </li></ul><ul><li>Conejo Valley Unified School District, as well as the patients at the HIV clinic in </li></ul><ul><li>Los Angeles. </li></ul><ul><li>Lari developed a comprehensive nutritional lesson for the first and third grade </li></ul><ul><li>students of Conejo Valley including a 30 minute lesson plan, and take home </li></ul><ul><li>packet containing a meal calendar, lists of healthy foods to get at the market, </li></ul><ul><li>and a letter to the parents. </li></ul>
