  2. 2. Learning ObjectivesThis is a one-day course designed to provide pragmatic clinical informationabout a variety of issues pertinent to the practicing anesthesiologist. The facultywill present lectures relevant to diverse areas of clinical participation. There willbe ample time for questions and discussion.At the conclusion of the course, attendees should be able to:• Gain a better understanding of how anesthesia decisions may affect patients undergoing interventional radiological procedures following an acute stroke• appreciate the growing role of perioperative transthoracic echocardiography by anesthesiologists• review current recommendations for pediatric and adult resuscitation, and how to manage these patients to optimize post-arrest outcomes• understand how to approach a pediatric patient with an airway foreign body• discuss possible detrimental effects of anesthetics on a child’s developing brain• realize the differing opinions regarding the use of etomidate for induction in rapid sequence intubation• identify the opportunities for future advancement in patient safety in anesthe- siology• know current evidence-based practices for airway management in patients with cervical spine injuries• consider ways to improve airway management when presented with patients outside the operating room Target AudienceClinical anesthesiologists, academic anesthesiologists and certified nurseanesthetists.
