  1. 1. FACT SHEET The 12th USA PACIFIC MEDICAL & LEGAL CONFERENCE NEW YORK, USA Tuesday 24 June – Tuesday 1 July 2014 (Part of the USA triple deck including the Alaskan Cruise & San Francisco [pre New York]) So much of Australia’s legal & medical tradition comes from the USA, so what better place to explore this than the cultural and commercial heart of that country, New York. This is the place where class actions, the onslaught of medical litigation and issues like product liability began, then exploded. New York is wonderful in summer and surprisingly warm (considering it is famous for trench coats!) – you can stroll through Central Park, take time to row on the lake, hire a bike and ride across the Brooklyn bridge, see Broadway shows, visit the multitude of museums, galleries & wonderful restaurants, or shop til you drop. In your ‘down time’, CPE recommends climbing the Statue of Liberty, walking in Central Park or Times Square, visiting ‘Little Italy’ or Chinatown. At previous conferences some delegates even visited some gospel churches in Harlem! The academic and professional program has always been the centrepiece of our conferences, but an equally important part is the networking activities we organise outside the formal program. Over the years many delegates have forged professional links with other practitioners arising out of meeting for the first time at the conferences. The informal networks established have led to a mutual referring of clients and, through being aware of other practitioners’ specialties; practitioners have gained access to professional resources which previously would have been either inaccessible or unknown. Delegates have also reported that the informal interaction with other delegates has led to the cross-pollination of ideas, exchange of methodologies and an enhancement of professional camaraderie among fellow practitioners. Many delegates are now coming to these conferences as individuals because of the camaraderie and networking events associated with the conferences. We have now run over 100 international conferences in the last 18 years. They are now entrenched as part of the legal & business continuing education calendar for practitioners, general practitioners, surgeons, psychiatrists & academics from all over the world. It is essential for our professional development to mix with colleagues from different jurisdictions and hear papers from international experts. The majority of conference sessions will be held at Hotel Belvedere & NYIT.
