  1. 1. 300 Midterm notes - Thorax and LungsInferior scapula - 7th ribSternal angle - 2nd rib.Lung apex - 2-4cm above inner third of clavicleLower border of lung - 6th rib at mid-clavicular, 8th rib at midaxiallary, 10th posteriorly.Oblique fissure - T3 spinus process to 6th rib at mid clavicular line.Horizontal fissure - 4th rib anteriorly to 5th rib at oblique fissure at midaxillary line.Trachia bifurcates into mainstem bronchi at sternal angle (T4).Dyspnea - uncomfortable awareness of breathing inappropriate to exertion.Anxious patent - “not able to get enough air” with parasthesias (numbness and tingling);symptoms are both at rest and during exercise.Wheeze - musical, audible to patient and others.Cough - can be respiratory or CV.Sputum - mucoid: translucent white/grey- purulent: yellow green.- hemoptysis: streaked or frank blood- foul-smelling: anaerobic lung abcess- tenacious - cystic fibrosis.- large volumes - bronchiectasis, lung abscess.
