    6. 6. Core = inner-most part, central Core Democratic Values Democratic = gov. run by the people Values = beliefs that have a high significance in society
    7. 7. Core Democratic Values CDVs are the fundamental beliefs & constitutional principles that unite all Americans. These values are expressed in significant documents, speeches, and other writings of the nation.

    9. 9. What is E.S.P.? <ul><li>Yes, it is Extra Sensory Perception. </li></ul><ul><li>BUT … in History use: </li></ul>
    10. 10. Economic: <ul><li>Anything having to do with buying, selling, trading, or making things. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ex. Business, banks, money </li></ul></ul>
    11. 11. Social: <ul><li>Anything having to do with how people live and interact with each other </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ex. Society </li></ul></ul>
    12. 12. Political: <ul><li>Anything having to do with laws & rules of a country and the government that makes & enforces them </li></ul>

    14. 14. REVIEW Post War Conditions: South is devastated economically – S. Plantation system collapses (13 th Amendment) socially – 4 million slaves freed w/out tools for independence politically - Southern states are not apart of the Union, only territory of the Union
    15. 15. These conditions lead to RECONSTRUCTION
    16. 16. REVIEW Period in U.S. history focused on rebuilding the U.S. after the Civil War and readmitting the defeated Confederate States into the Union RECONSTRUCTION:

    18. 18. <ul><li>Abolished slavery </li></ul>13 th Amendment (1865)
    19. 19. <ul><li>Confirmed citizenship for all people born or naturalized in the U.S. </li></ul>14 th Amendment (1868) <ul><li>States could not deny citizens equal protection before the law </li></ul>
    20. 20. <ul><li>Right to vote cannot be denied on the basis of race </li></ul>15 th Amendment (1870) <ul><li>Guaranteed suffrage for Black males </li></ul><ul><li>Northern states affected </li></ul><ul><li>Most African Americans voted Republican </li></ul>
