He landed on the Greek island of Lemnos where he was nurtured by the goddesses of the sea. Later he was welcomed back to Olympus.

Pandora was given to the Titans brother Epimetheus as his wife. For her dowry she brought a jar filled with evils from which she removed the lid thereby afflicting men for the first time with hard work and sickness. Only hope remained inside the jar.

It was Lemnos where Hephaestus built hispalace and forges. Hephaestus built the armor and weaponsfor the gods. By making lightning bolts for his father ZeusHephaestus was rewarded with the hand in marriage ofAphrodite the goddess of love and the most beautiful goddessof them all.

Dionysus gave Hephaestuswine and when he was intoxicated Dionysus tookhim back to Mount Olympus on a mule. This sceneis a favorite in Greek art. Hephaestus wished tomarry Athena but Athena turned him down.
