  1. 1. Donald Trump’s Stance on War and Peace Matthew Moten
  2. 2. Introduction • A veteran, Colonel Matthew Moten has leveraged his military expertise to give lectures at West Point and to publish his book, Presidents and Their Generals. In his spare time, Colonel Matthew Moten focuses his attention on the current presidential election. Donald Trump is one of the candidates vying to become the 45th president of the United States. The following briefly discusses his position on war and peace. Syria Ceasefire On February 25, at the 2016 CNN-Telemundo Republican debate against Senator Ted Cruz, Mr. Trump said that he does not agree with the ceasefire in Syria. His response reflects the uncooperativeness of the countries involved in resolving violence in the region.
  3. 3. Donald Trump • Russia and ISIS During the CBS Republican primary debate in South Carolina, Mr. Trump retorted to Governor Jeb Bush’s statement that Russia’s part in the war against ISIS has negatively impacted American strategies. The Republican candidate communicated that the priority should involve eliminating ISIS with the aid of Russia, prior to making other military decisions that could prolong war. ISIS and Oil Mr. Trump declared the necessity to cut off access to oil in the Middle East during the ABC Republican debate. He believes his approach would eliminate ISIS’s access to financial gains in the region, thus stopping ISIS from obtaining money to support its goals.
